Everything is dressed in shades of brown. The worn linoleum floor, the furnishings, even the cold coffee — its foam long collapsed and clinging to the rim of a Havana Club glass — sit motionless on the table. A student couple occupies the long corner bench. The cool, light-brown backrest contrasts with the dark seat beneath it. Above the soft strains of French guitar music drifting from the speakers, the woman’s voice hangs in the air, muted and familiar, carrying a sense of déjà vu.
