Ahead of summer, Michael Kors is giving us a glimpse of what to look forward to, transporting us to the coast of Saint Tropez. The designer has long championed the glamour of the French Riviera, but the arrival of a new capsule collection with Brooklyn-based artist Christina Zimpel adds a vibrant, Fauvist energy to the seasonal wardrobe. The collaboration builds on a creative friendship that began years ago, replacing traditional floral prints with Zimpel’s signature high-contrast illustrations. “When I first came across Christina’s work years ago, I was drawn to the optimism and the joy in what she did,” says Kors. “I also love that her work has such a strong sense of place; it instantly transports you. This summer felt like the right time for a wardrobe filled with that sunny, uplifting aesthetic.” Zimpel, an Australian-born former art director for Vogue, has long been a fixture in Michael Kors’ creative orbit.
