Fendi chose the height of Milano Design Week to unveil a fresh chapter in a legacy of supporting creative youth. Piazza della Scala became a temporary home for a shortlist of six finalists, each vying for the inaugural Fendi Design Prize. “The vision of the new generations from around the world interpreting our Maison’s codes is something very stimulating for us while we look forward to discovering the next standout designer of the future,” says Ramon Ros, Fendi Chairman and CEO. Giulio Cappellini, founder and art director of the eponymous Italian furniture company, led a jury that read like a directory of global design giants, including fellow architects Patricia Urquiola, Cristina Celestino, Rossana Orlandi, Lyndon Neri and more. A search for talent spanned leading design schools across the globe, inviting participants to interpret the Maison’s codes using upcycled leather and fur. “This project best expresses Fendi’s contemporaneity while respecting tradition,” says Cappellini. “Forms of the past projected into the future.
