Planta Industrial lives between worlds. They are authentically New York and alt-Dominican, familiar but completely new, and that duality runs throughout everything they make. Schön! met the duo, Aka the Darknight and Saso, on a cold New York day and asked them to take us to a place that felt like home. There was still snow on the ground when we arrived at Tony’s, a seafood spot in City Island, deep in the Bronx. Eating oysters and lobster on a freezing day felt like the perfect metaphor for their music: unexpected and full of contrast. We hit up a neighbourhood bodega afterwards, another place that speaks to who they are. Sonically, everything is on the table with Planta Industrial. Punk drums, breakbeats, synths and drum machines. Their energised darkness is informed by the echoes of early influences like My Chemical Romance, System of a Down, Linkin Park and Big Pun.What makes Planta Industrial stand out isn’t just their references, it’s the way those worlds coexist without compromise.
