Since Victoire de Castellane first dreamed up the La D de Dior in 2003, the collection has acted as a canvas for her more playful instincts. The original inspiration for this watch is actually found in a man’s wardrobe. The Artistic Director of Dior Jewellery designed the very first model to look like a woman had borrowed her boyfriend’s watch and kept it for herself. This explains the oversized, masculine feel of the proportions paired with the delicate finish of a jewel. This Autumn, however, the silhouette returns with a fresh perspective that feels lighthearted and full of life. It is a departure from the typical sobriety of watchmaking, opting instead for a palette that mimics the softest parts of a sunset and a design that puts multifaceted femininity at the forefront. Powdery pink, sky blue and a mellow yellow define this new chapter. Each piece is a total immersion in its chosen shade: the straps are rendered in single, solid colours that lead directly into matching iridescent mother-of-pearl dials; elsewhere, the Dior logo sits alone against shimmering surfaces, allowing the materials to do the talking.
