Gunman killed in police response after attack on Pakistani religious scholar in Jhelum

An unidentified gunman was shot dead by police after opening fire outside the Quran and Sunnat Research Academy of prominent Pakistani religious scholar Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza on Sunday, authorities said. Mirza remained unharmed during the incident, while a police constable identified as Ahsan sustained a bullet wound to his leg and was hospitalised. The attack occurred as Mirza was delivering a routine lecture at the academy in Jhelum, Punjab province. Police neutralised the assailant in a swift exchange of fire, and a detailed investigation has been ordered by Regional Police Officer Rawalpindi Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani to trace any possible facilitators.
