Will Dodge's 2027 College Draft Rankings: Next 10 + 10

As we enter regional play (and Portal Kombat), I thought it would be a great opportunity to get a peek ahead to the 2027 College Draft Class. Here are some early thoughts on the class at large, with my top 10 below, followed by 15 more players who are notable.

I got the feeling back on March 1st, especially as 2026 began to see its ups and downs, that this College 2027 Pitcher group is going to be pretty good. In fact, 22 of the top 50 are arms, whereas the 2026 group only has 18. It is a pitcher group mostly filled with righthanders.

There are two hitters at the top of the draft who do a lot of things well, but from this far out, there are mostly hitters who have big tools but incomplete offensive profiles. Where the 2026 class struggles to provide a quantity of college catchers, this 2027 group more than makes up for it. In fact, there are 5 in my top 14, compared to 2 in my 2026 top 22.

Similar to the catching vein, there is a lot of size in this class. If I were to pick a top 22 from this group and take them to the gridiron, we might be able to go toe to toe with Kirk Ferentz at Iowa. Don’t forget our short kings, though! 7 of my top 76 are below 5’10. Peeling the onion on the size, there are a ton of outfield power hitters, and so far, not a ton of defense. True CF prospects may be scarce, and whoever inevitably pops in the 2027 season could see a massive gain on this board. Not mentioned in this piece, but someone like Tennessee OF Blaine Brown could be in a good position for that.

Lastly, some schools pop up numerous times and give a nice preview of some early team rankings. It feels like we’re on a crash course for an Arizona State & West Virginia clash for the top of the Big 12 next year. Florida and Mississippi State lead the group in the SEC, with LSU & Vanderbilt close behind. UCLA and Oregon should continue to be kings in the Big 10, but I would watch out for Indiana to make a jump. They are far out now, but Stanford will be loaded with lineup talent and could be a powder keg to the ACC.

Truly, for this last point, there is a lot of talent on the West Coast. Oregon State, Arizona State, UCLA, Oregon, Stanford, Arizona, Cal, and Washington all have notable players in my top 75, with numerous mid-majors surrounding them. While I am intrigued by how the new Pac-12 will play on the diamond, the College Baseball world will severely miss the old conference alignment in 2027.

Enough waiting, let’s get to the rankings.

#1 Oregon State RHP Dax Whitney

It’s a little too premature for a 2024 rerank, but when Dax Whitney was placed 3rd on my personal list of players to make it to campus, that was two spaces too low.
