Diamond Diplomas: Diamondback to the Future

Prospects Live May 26, 2026
Source

Welcome to Diamond Diplomas! Whether you compete in the deepest of dynasty leagues or want to win the office redraft title, Prospects Live has you covered. Before we dive in, here is a quick overview of the tier system. Both the hitter and pitcher lists feature three “tiers” of prospects. These tiers loosely correspond to the PLive Dynasty prospect rankings of these players relative to one another, but the author (yours truly) will often place and move names around to more accurately reflect both their real-time dynasty value and their potential for major league fantasy production in 2026. For a full breakdown of the tier system used to prioritize players, take a look at the first article in this season’s series here:

Report Card

Called Up :

  • Tommy Troy, 2B/OF (ARI): The Diamondbacks have started to resemble the Athletics from last season, a team leaning into their top shelf of hitting prospect talent to help fuel a surprisingly strong campaign. Troy is their latest call-up, and he hit the ground running on Sunday, scoring twice after hitting two doubles in his debut. The former Stanford standout should see steady time in the outfield for Arizona, but could also get some reps at second base as well. Though more of a floor than a ceiling guy for fantasy, Troy could be worth a speculative add even in shallower redraft formats thanks to his defensive versatility and well-rounded profile at the plate.
  • Kevin Alcántara, OF (CHC): Alcántara crushed 15 home runs in just 41 games for Triple-A Iowa this season, earning a return to the majors with the Cubs this past Saturday. While he possesses impressive pull-side power, he also strikes out frequently (33.3% in Triple-A this season). Expect some fun highlight reel homers but with worrisome rate stats from “El Jaguar” as long as he remains with the big league club.
  • Pedro Ramírez, 3B (CHC): Logjam? What logjam? The Cubs could not ignore Ramírez’s 2026 breakout any longer apparently, as they brought the 22-year-old up for his big league debut last weekend. His switch-hitting ability may help Ramírez garner more at-bats than many expect in the near future, but he is far from a lineup staple given how crowded Chicago’s bench is at the moment. Savvy fantasy managers will check out our PLive Playing Time feature to keep tabs on Ramírez’s place in the pecking order for the Cubs, and use it to determine whether he is worth snagging in redraft formats soon.
  • Bryan Torres, 2B/OF (STL): Torres’ journey as a professional began way back in 2015 as part of the Brewers organization, but he has now made his MLB debut with the Cardinals over a decade later. He can play all over the dirt and the grass, runs well, and has a strong hit tool (as evidenced by his 92.1% zone contact rate in Triple-A last season), but has little fantasy upside on the power front. Consider him a deep-league target for the time being.
  • Jonah Tong, P (NYM): After a whale of a season in 2025, Tong struggled to keep his head above water in Triple-A to start 2026. The Mets still trust his talent, though, and they made that clear by calling him up this weekend after he had conceded six earned runs and failed to make it out of the second inning in his latest Triple-A start. Tong rewarded their faith immediately by tossing three clean innings in relief on Friday, and the Mets reportedly intend to keep him up as part of the big league pitching staff. However, with his exact role still somewhat uncertain, his fantasy outlook for the remainder of 2026 is also up in the air. Redraft managers in shallow leagues should probably wait and see what Tong’s usage looks like for the next week or so before making a move.
