Prospects Live May 19, 2026

Atlantic Coast

Covered by: Will Dodge

‼️ Tate McKee, RHP Georgia Tech (Atlantic Coast)

7 IP, H, BB, 14 K

Vahn Lackey, C Georgia Tech (Atlantic Coast)

Game 1: 2-for-4, HR, 2B, R, 3 RBI, BB

Game 2: 3-for-4, 2B, 3 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB

💣💣 🍔🍟 Parker Brosius, LF Georgia Tech (Atlantic Coast)

Game 1: 2-for-3, 2 HR, 3 R, 3 RBI, BB, SB

Game 2: 1-for-4, 2 RBI, BB

So much for the deflating mid-week L, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are ending the regular season on a tear with 9-0 and 14-1 wins over Boston College on Thursday and Friday. Tate McKee turned in the outing of his life on Thursday, after a delay pushed the first pitch by multiple hours, McKee allowed only a hit and a walk while striking out 14 in 7 innings. He has settled in nicely after a rocky April, and his versatile pitch mix should keep him as a bonus round prospect. Vahn Lackey continued to prove why he’s a short-lister for the Golden Spikes award, reaching base in 8/11 PAs in the two games, including 3 XBHs. Public sentiment has him firmly in the driver’s seat to go 3rd overall. As if the GT lineup needed to get any deeper, welcome back SR OFer Parker Brosius! Brosius re-entered the lineup regularly on April 29th and has really taken off with 4 HRs in the past week. He is slashing .345/.513/.855 on the year, and hits 9th for Tech. An embarrassment of riches for the newly clinched ACC regular season champs.

Eric Jeon, 2B Stanford (Atlantic Coast)

Game 1: 2-for-3, 2B, RBI, BB

Game 2: 2-for-4

Daniel Murillo, 1B Cal (Atlantic Coast)

Game 1: 1-for-3, R, 3 BB

Game 2: 2-for-4, 2B, BB, SB

The Big Series, which I attended live, has been incredibly back-and-forth thus far, with Stanford winning on Thursday 7-6 and Cal on Friday 4-3. The Cardinal survived a 4-run Cal 7th to hold on Thursday, with FR LFer Brock Ketelsen making the game-winning OF assist to end it. Cal survived a pair of Cardinal homers in the 7th, by scoring a run for themselves in the 7th and 8th to tie it and go ahead, then stranded Stanford RISP in the 8th and 9th to win it. Eric Jeon continues to have a nice JR season with Stanford and put up a pair of two-hit days. The Columbia JR transfer has been a sneaky data darling, making contact and chasing at above-average rates, while also hitting with the angles to maximize average raw power. He’s slashing .319/.428/.549 on the year, but his draft value will be anchored to likely the double-digit round range due to a DH future. The Grad 1B transfer from SF State, Daniel Murillo, will likely end his college career next week after the ACC tourney, but for now, he’s going out with a bang. Murillo reached base 6 times in 9 PAs in the two games, while also getting aggressive on the base paths, stealing one bag and being thrown out another time. You can always tip the cap to someone playing with their heart on their sleeve, especially in a rivalry series. The rubber match for what used to be The Stanford Axe is Saturday.

‼️ Chris Levonas, RHP Wake Forest (Atlantic Coast)

6 IP, H, 3 BB, 10 K

Boston Torres, LF Wake Forest (Atlantic Coast)

Game 1: 2-for-4, 2 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI, SB

Game 2: 2-for-4, 2 2B, R, RBI

No, you did not get deja vu checking the box scores. Wake Forest did beat Duke 7-2 on both Thursday and Friday. Chris Levonas was terrific on Thursday, punching out 10 in 6 innings, only allowing 1 hit. He was back to his early-season self, flashing 5 pitches that all move with late bite and grabbing 99 4 times. If he can corral this version for a full season next year, he could go in the top 5 in the ‘27 Draft. A player eligible for this season, Boston Torres, has come around nicely after a colder start to the season. The transfer from VMI has pushed his OPS on the year over .950 after a pair of 2-double games. He’s also a speed threat with 24 stolen bags across this year and last. Wake Forest will be a team to circle for the tournament if they can bottle this level of pitching.

‼️ Rob Evans, LHP Miami (FL) (Atlantic Coast)

7 IP, 6 H, ER, 2 BB, 7 K

‼️ Trey Beard, LHP Florida State (Atlantic Coast)

6 IP, 4 H, ER, BB, 8 K

💣💣 Hunter Carns, C Florida State (Atlantic Coast)

Game 1: 1-for-4, HR, R, RBI

Game 2: 2-for-4, HR, R, RBI, 2 BB

Miami looked like it would be off to a great weekend with a 6-1 lead in the 8th on Thursday, especially after SR 2B Jake Ogden talked a little junk before the series, but a 17-1 FSU run in the following 10 innings flipped the script, leading to a walk-off on Thursday and a run-rule victory on Friday. The Canes wasted a good Rob Evans start as the senior lefty went 7 innings of 1 run ball. He’s had a good season battling through injury, holding a 3.21 ERA & a near 20% K-BB. Trey Beard responded with a great start on Friday for Florida State after Wes Mendes had a rare misstep on Thursday. Beard struck out 8 in 6 innings, only allowing 1 run. The transfer from FAU has had a really shaky year, but he, too, has held his K-BB firm over 20%, and should still go in the bonus rounds with his great CH. The backstop Hunter Carns contributed a homer in each game. As Brody DeLamielleure has seemingly stepped into the place of Myles Bailey, if FSU could get another bat going, it will help them incredibly.

AJ Gracia, CF Virginia (Atlantic Coast)

Game 1: 0-for-2, 3 BB

Game 2: 2-for-3, 2B, RBI, BB

Alex Alicea, SS Louisville (Atlantic Coast)

Game 1: 2-for-4, RBI, SB

Game 2: 3-for-5, 2 R, RBI

The Louisville Cards and Virginia Cavs have traded blowouts as Virginia won on Thursday, 8-3, and Louisville won on Friday, 12-2. AJ Gracia has had an alright 2026 season despite entering as a top 5 overall pick talent, but he is starting to come alive just at the right time. Gracia also reached base 6 times in 9 PAs, walking 4 times, but also knocking a laser double, which was struck with the loudest EV he’s put up all season. Alex Alicea knocked 5 singles across the two games, while also stealing a base and collecting 2 RBIs. Known more for his defense, Alicea has also continued to make contact at a great rate, although without the size or strength for a projectable MLB profile, pushing his draft stock to the double-digit rounds.

Owen Hull, CF North Carolina (Atlantic Coast)

Game 1: 1-for-4, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB

Game 2: 3-for-5, 3 2B, 3 R, 4 RBI

🍔🍟 Jake Schaffner, SS North Carolina (Atlantic Coast)

Game 1: 1-for-4, 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB

Game 2: 3-for-4, HR, 4 R, RBI, BB, SB

Sherman Johnson, 3B North Carolina State (Atlantic Coast)

Game 1: 1-for-5, HR, R, 3 RBI

Game 2: 1-for-4, R, 2 RBI

UNC has jumped out and slapped its way to taking the series in the State-Carolina rivalry with a 9-4 win on Thursday, then a resounding 17-7 run-rule win on Friday. Owen Hull has continued to have an electric second half to his season, potentially building a case for a Golden Spikes Semi-Finalist campaign. Hull homered and doubled 3 times in for his 4 hits over the two games, doing a great job building up a lower ISO statistic. The SS Jake Schaffner reached 6 times in 10 PAs, with a homer and a stolen base in Friday’s trouncing. He’s been a power/speed threat all season with 6 HRs and 24 swipes on the year. Both Hull and Schaffner could go early on Day 2. Sherman Johnson continues to be one of the country's most underrated hitters. Even with only two hits on the weekend thus far, Johnson has scored or knocked in 6 of the 11 NC State runs. He’s a good 3B defender, with barrel adjustability and consistently flashing strong EVs. As UCLA came oh so close to dropping their series to a treading Washington squad, North Carolina may start to pick up some 1st-place votes as they enter the ACC tourney.

Big 12

Covered by: Drew Wheeler

‼️ Lance Davis, RHP TCU (Big 12)

9.0 IP, 3 H, BB, 6 K

Just like we drew it up in the preseason, TCU’s rotation anchor has notched his second complete game of the season (and TCU’s first CGSO since a guy named Payton Tolle) and led the Horned Frogs to a 4-0 shutout of one of the conference’s best teams in West Virginia. Way to go, Lance Davis! Wait, Lance Davis?! Yes indeed – Davis twirled an absolute gem on Friday, masterfully containing West Virginia’s nickel-and-diming offense to a day of coinlessness, allowing only three hits and passing a single batter to the bags freely while punching out six and finding ten outs on the ground. Most impressively of all is Davis’ 108 pitches across the nine innings giving him roughly 12 pitches per inning and 3.6 per hitter. The right-hander works with a fastball reaching the mid-90s and a slider about 10 MPH slower; Davis’ 2.97 ERA in conference play comes alongside reaching the most innings pitched of the Big XII, and boy, I bet Arkansas wishes he wouldn’t have transferred.

💣💣 Ty Smolinski, 1B Kansas State (Big 12)

2-for-4, 2 HR, 2 R, 3 RBI

Have yourself a day, Ty Smolinski! The Wildcats’ first baseman got the team’s work done midway through the Friday game, achieving a Double Dong performance to lead Kansas State to a 5-4 victory over UCF. Smolinski got his first big fly in the sixth inning, knocking a 1-2 shot to right field after fouling off four pitches in the at-bat. In the next inning, Smolinski went back to right field with a two-run bop, pushing KSU to five runs; admittedly, it got hairy for the ‘Cats as UCF rallied to score four late, but the five runs KSU put up early held and earned the Friday win.

Kollin Ritchie, CF Oklahoma State (Big 12)

1-for-2, HR, 2 R, RBI, 2 BB

Colin Brueggemann, 1B Oklahoma State (Big 12)

3-for-4, HR, R, 5 RBI

13-1 is a bewitchingly brutal victory for Oklahoma State, whose Cowpokes lassoed Arizona on Friday evening. First baseman Colin Brueggemann continued his torrid May with a three-hit game, starting with a first-inning homer to clear the bags and put three runs on the board in a four-run first; the homer came on an 0-1 count and was Brueggemann’s 15th of the campaign, plating Kollin Ritchie and Campbell Smithwick. As the Poke batted around and back in the second inning, Ritchie got fresh with the pitcher and blasted his 29th home run of the season to right field, lifting the score higher to 6-1 OK State. Later in the inning, Brueggemann went through the right side of the infield to plate Aidan Meola from second, giving the Cowboys another run on the board very early. Brueggemann came up again, going through the middle of the infield with an 0-0 single to plate Smithwick from second. Oklahoma State could be a very popular sleeper pick in the Big XII Tournament – really, only their lack of quality pitching could cut them short.

🚑 Cole Carlon, LHP Arizona State (Big 12)

1.2 IP, BB, 3 K

Red alert. Not good. A visible velocity dip led to Carlon coming out of the game after one and two-thirds and only 20 pitches; Head Coach Willie Bloomquist described the issue as “achiness,” and the ASU team Twitter account described the move as “precaution.” You’ve got to hope this is the case, as Carlon’s season (and draft stock), as well as ASU’s pitching staff are all hanging in the balance on the health of the very talented left-hander.

Landon Hairston, CF Arizona State (Big 12)

1-for-4, HR, R, RBI, K

💣💣 Nu'u Contrades, 2B Arizona State (Big 12)

2-for-4, 2 HR, 2 R, 2 RBI

Despite a 5-3 loss to Houston on Friday, the Sun Devils’ offense was led by none other than center fielder Landon Hairston and second baseman Nu’u Contrades; “Dairy Bonds” kicked the game off in grand style, bopping a 389-foot homer to right field and capitalizing on a 3-2 count to give ASU a 1-0 lead early. Not to be outdone, Nu’u Contrades went 414 feet to left on the second pitch of his at-bat in the same frame and compounded the Sun Devils’ lead to 2-0. Impressively, the second baseman kept the pressure on in his next AB in the third inning, clobbering a near duplicate 410-foot solo shot to deep left, though this one was the product of a full count. Three solo shots does not an offense make and also is not really Arizona State’s MO, though the Devils certainly have the power to do so; they’re looking more and more like one of the Big XII’s best, and especially in an offensively driven environment, could make a huge splash come next week.

Augusto Mungarrie, C Kansas (Big 12)

2-for-3, HR, 2B, R, 3 RBI, BB, K

The man with the name too long for the PL Hub strikes again, as catcher Augusto Mungarrietta came away with one of the biggest performances in Friday’s victory. Mungarrietta got going in the top fourth, smacking a double to right center off Garrison Sumner and making good on a 3-2 count; Dylan Schlotterback would come around on the two-bagger. Two frames later, the Jayhawks’ catcher blasted a 412-foot homer (his 13th of the year) to right center field, bringing Jordan Bach and himself around to score. With the 7-6 win (their second straight on the weekend), Kansas took the series and rolled on into Saturday. The number one seed and assumed Big XII in-season champion Kansas just have not had many stumbles of late, and barring the WVU series, have been downright untouchable; they’re pushing for a national seed.

Pearson Riebock, 2B Baylor (Big 12)

4-for-5, HR, 2 2B, R, 2 RBI, K

Travis Sanders, SS Baylor (Big 12)

2-for-5, HR, 2 R, RBI, BB, K

Baylor put forth its best foot on Friday and the middle infield duo of Travis Sanders and Pearson Riebock led the way for the Bears in their 10-3 win over Utah. Sanders got the Bears on the board with a gargantuan 464-foot home run to center field, absolutely punishing a 1-0 offering to put up the first of ten runs. In the second frame, Riebock doubled to shallow left, making good on an 0-2 count which he worked full before lacing the ball into the outfield grass, driving in Brayden Buchanan. Riebock popped his own solo shot in the fifth inning, sending a ball 414 feet to right field, lifting the lead to 3-1 Baylor. In the eighth inning, outfielder Brady Janusek singled, scoring Sanders from Second to keep heaping runs on in the Bears’ favor. With a somewhat winnable path facing them in the Big XII Tournament, Baylor getting hot now could be a very fun development.

Big Ten

Covered by: Jake Bargery

‼️ Will Sanford, RHP Oregon (Big Ten)

6 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, BB, 7 K

Following a tough outing against UCLA last weekend, it was imperative that Will Sanford got things back on track against USC this weekend and he did just that. He set the tone early by striking out the side in the first inning, letting everyone know he was back. Things got a little shaky in the second as he gave up 3 hits, a walk, and a wild pitch to put 2 on the board for USC. After that, it was smooth sailing for Sanford. In fact, he didn't allow a single baserunner the rest of the game and picked up 4 more strikeouts along the way. This was a massive bounce back for Oregon as they lost yesterday to USC and for Sanford getting back to his old self and Oregon will attempt to take the series from USC in the final game of the regular season today.

🍔🍟 Jackson Hotchkiss, LF Washington (Big Ten)

2-for-4, HR, R, 2 RBI, BB, K, SB

Cashel Dugger, C UCLA (Big Ten)

1-for-3, 2B, R, 2 RBI, 2 BB, K

UCLA found themselves on the ropes once again against Washington and they didn't provide much at all on the offensive side through the first 5 innings. In the 8th, Dugger drew a walk and would end up scoring the run to bring the Bruins within one on a Jarrod Hocking 2-RBI single. In the 9th, Dugger came through with what ended up being the game-winning hit on a 2-RBI double to give UCLA the lead late. They held on to avoid the massive series upset over Washingon and will need to get a win again today to avoid it once again.

‼️ Cristofer Cespedes, RHP Maryland (Big Ten)

6 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 12 K

That Penn State lineup had absolutely no answer to what Cristofer Cespedes was throwing at them. He struck out nearly half of the batters he faced in this one. The only blemishes he had on the day were the home run from Spencer Barnett in the 2nd inning and the homer from Preston Yaucher in the 5th; both were solo shots. He got this done in less than 100 pitches and the offense was allowing him to pitch with a nice lead through most of this game, resulting in a 12-2 run-rule victory for Maryland over Penn State.

Devin Russell, C Maryland (Big Ten)

2-for-4, 2 HR, 2 R, 3 RBI

Hogan Denny, 3B Indiana (Big Ten)

3-for-5, HR, 2B, 2 R, 3 RBI

This game was back and forth for both Indiana and Illinois, but Hogan Denny sure made his mark on it for the Hoosiers. His day got started with a leadoff double in the first and would later score on a Caleb Koskie single. Denny came up in the 9th and tied the game with a 3-run homer with 2-outs in the inning and that sent the game to extras. Despite Indiana taking the loss here, Hogan Denny more than made his presence known in this one.

Jaixen Frost, 3B Iowa (Big Ten)

3-for-5, HR, 2B, 2 R, 4 RBI

It would be unfair of me to say that Jaixen Frost is the reason Iowa stayed in the game, but he was very much a spark in the 14-5 Hawkeye victory. Frost's first blow came in the form of a game-tying, 2-RBI double in the 6th and he would late score the go-ahead run on a Ben Swails single. The 8th inning is where this Iowa offense really exploded. Frost capped off the 8-run inning with a 2-run bomb, giving Iowa the 9-run lead that they'd keep until the end of the game.

‼️ Isaac Morton, RHP Minnesota (Big Ten)

3 IP, H, BB, 7 K

Isaac Morton was absolutely dealing yesterday before exiting early. He opened the game by striking out the side in each of the first two frames. He allowed an walk and a hit by pitch in the third before getting out of the jam with his 7th strikeout of the game. Dylan Carey led off the third for Nebraska with a single and Morton exited the game with an injury. It's unclear what the injury was or the severity but, his performance before exiting deserved recognition and we are all hoping that there is nothing serious with Morton's injury.

‼️ Ty Horn, RHP Nebraska (Big Ten)

7 IP, 7 H, 4 ER, 8 K

Despite the lack of offensive production for much of his start, Ty Horn kept Nebraska in this game and gave them a chance to win late in the game, in which they did. Outside of the Easton Richter 2-run homer in the second, Horn was rolling through the first four innings of this game. He had five strikeouts through four innings and had only allowed 2 baserunners. A dropped third strike, stolen base, and ground rule double resulted in a run for Minnesota in the 5th and a couple more hits scored another run in the 6th, but Nebraska remained in striking distance thanks to Ty Horn battling and keeping them in the game.

Jeter Worthley, C Nebraska (Big Ten)

2-for-5, HR, 2 R, 3 RBI, 2 K

Nebraska had a very up and down game yesterday, but they eventually came out on top, with a lot of credit due to Jeter Worthley. Worthley got Nebraska on the board with a solo shot in the 8th inning to cut the deficit to 3. In the ninth, Worthley found himself in a huge spot with the 'Huskers being down 3 with 2 outs in the 9th and bases loaded. He drove in 2 with a single to cut the deficit to just 1 and would later score what ended up being the game-winning run on a wild pitch as Nebraska survived the loss and won 7-6 over Minnesota.

💣💣 Jack Sweeney, RF Rutgers (Big Ten)

3-for-5, 2 HR, 2B, 2 R, 2 RBI, K

Jack Sweeney had a pair of massive hits in yesterday's game. The first being a go-ahead solo homer in the 6th. The other being a moonshot that kicked off the top of the wall, just missing the Northwestern left-fielder, Logan De Groot's glove, and rolling about 30 feen inward off the wall. By the time Northwestern was able to corral it and get it in, Sweeney had already crossed home plate with a game-tying inside-the-park home run.

‼️ Gavin Kuzniewski, RHP Ohio State (Big Ten)

6 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K

Gavin Kuzniewski has been on an absolute tear in his last 4 starts, including the one yesterday. He allowed the baes loaded in the second via a couple of hits and a HBP and Michigan took advantage with a fielder's choice and a bunt that scored a couple of runs. Other than that, Kuzniewski was making quick work of the OSU rivals, Michigan. Brayden Jefferis got him for a solo bomb in the 6th, but Kuzniewski did enough to earn the win for the Buckeyes and give them their 3rd straight series win and their 7th win of their last 8 games. In Kuzniewski's last 4 starts, he has gone 26 innings with 16 strikeouts and a 2.42 ERA.

Mid Majors

Covered by: Joshua Salguero

💣💣 Tommy Harrison, RF Miami (OH) (Mid Majors)

5-for-5, 2 HR, 3 R, 5 RBI

Harrison is exploding this weekend. Following a two hit, five RBI day on Thursday, he followed up with a five hit, five RBI day that included two home runs. Harrison has had a fantastic season and he’s playing as such up until the very end. With his performance on Friday, he’s raised his season slash to .400/.520/.720 with 16 homers and 82 RBIs. Harrison should easily win the MAC player of the year after the conclusion of Saturday’s games.

💣💣 Ryan Drumm, DH Liberty (Mid Majors)

2-for-4, 2 HR, 2 R, 3 RBI

Liberty keeps their two seed dreams alive with the win over Middle Tennessee on Friday. The pitching has slowed down tremendously for Liberty but the offense has helped pick up some of the slack. Ryan Drumm homered twice in Liberty’s 10-2 win. Drumm had lost his starter’s role early on due to a dismal start but has been given more chances since the middle of April. It’s still been more of the same but the two-homer game provided a glimmer of what Drumm used to be with Butler. Liberty is thankful for even the tiniest bit as it gives them another chance at securing the two seed on Saturday.

Joe Hall, LF Southeast Missouri State (Mid Majors)

2-for-4, HR, 2B, 2 R, 3 RBI, BB

The OVC has been going under the radar for how competitive the conference has been. SIUE claimed the top seed on Thursday but Eastern Illinois, SEMO, and Little Rock are all left fighting for the remaining for their seed placement between two and four. SEMO is a prime spot to take the second seed with the series clinching win over Little Rock on Friday. Joe Hall homered and doubled to bring home three in the two run win. Hall has been the best hitter for a team that is looking to finish just shy of 40 wins. In 53 games, Hall is hitting .353 with an OPS over 1.000 and 28 extra base hits.

💣💣 Ben Timblin, RF Wofford (Mid Majors)

5-for-5, 2 HR, 3B, 3 R, 7 RBI

Timblin went a perfect five-for-five, driving in seven of the team’s eight runs in the win over Samford. He began his wondrous night with an RBI single in the 1st to get an early 1-0 lead. A Lucas Manning single to bring him in would represent the lone non-Timblin RBI for Wofford. Following that, Timblin would hit two homers, a triple, and a single to drive in the remaining six runs and pretty much claim victory all by himself.

💣💣 Jett Music, DH Campbell (Mid Majors)

3-for-4, 2 HR, 2B, 2 R, 3 RBI, BB, K

Music and Joey Morton are just in a home run race at this point. Following Morton’s four home run game, Music had a two homer game to reclaim the team’s home run lead. Music’s first of two came leading off the game, traveling 443’. The second bomb came in the 7th and while it didn’t travel as far, still went a solid 404’ for another no doubter. His power streak has been ridiculous. In his last thirteen games, he’s hit thirteen home runs and raised his OPS to 1.261 in the process.

Logan Fyffe, SS Missouri State (Mid Majors)

2-for-5, HR, R, 3 RBI

Fyffe just can’t seem to keep himself off the sheet. Fyffe delivered in the clutch once more, hitting a three-run home run in the 7th to give Missouri State a one run lead and continue their final push towards a top seed in CUSA. I’m sure not many people expected this kind of breakout from Fyffe. After batting .125 in 24 at bats as a sophomore, Fyffe broke out to hit .363/.423/.609 in his junior season, flaunting a bit of five-tool capabilities. He’s been the MVP of this Missouri State squad and there’s high hopes coming in a couple months for him.

‼️ Ethan Norby, LHP East Carolina (Mid Majors)

6.1 IP, 4 H, ER, BB, 10 K

Norby has had a forgettable month that he’s looking to leave very far behind him. Friday was a nice bounce back, going 6.1 innings giving up just one run and striking out ten. Although he’s struggled in run prevention, his strikeout stuff has been the same if even slightly better. After this start, Norby has struck out 108 batters in 75.2 innings, good for a career high 30.8 K%.

Jevin Relaford, SS South Florida (Mid Majors)

2-for-6, 2B, R, 3 RBI, K

After a great start to the year, South Florida is fighting for their lives in the final weekend. A win on Friday keeps them alive for at least one more game as they fight for a bid in the American. Jevin Relaford did what he could to keep the dream alive, notching a pair of hits and driving in three runs in the win. Relaford walked it off in the 10th with an RBI single to put them at a tie with Wichita State for the final seed. Saturday represents a winner-take-all matchup between the two with the loser having their season ended early.

‼️ Camden Clark, RHP Southern Mississippi (Mid Majors)

5.0 IP, 5 H, ER, 9 K, HRA

Clark has been unhittable. Yeah he’s faced the bottom feeders of the Sun Belt but can’t dismiss just how good he’s been. Following up his dominant past two starts, Clark did more of the same with five innings of one run ball, striking out nine. In his past three starts, Clark has combined to pitch 18 innings, giving up ten hits and one walk while striking out thirty-three. No one can hit him right now and this start gave Southern Miss their eighth win in a row and a chance to take the top seed with one final game left.

💣💣 Diego Diaz, 3B Texas San Antonio (Mid Majors)

3-for-5, 2 HR, 2B, 3 R, 6 RBI

💣💣 Jacob Silva, C Texas San Antonio (Mid Majors)

2-for-5, 2 HR, 2 R, 4 RBI

With a loss to UAB on Thursday, it looked briefly like UTSA could lose the one seed in the American that they’ve held on to comfortably all year. Friday dispelled those doubts behind the backs of a pair of home runs from Diego Diaz and Jacob Silva. After a tight one-run loss the day before, the Roadrunners exploded for nineteen runs. Diaz has unlocked a bit of power with the season winding down, now homering thrice in the series and hitting half of his season’s home runs in the final month of play. Silva’s done the same thing, having only two homers all season and doubling his total with the pair he hit on Friday. The top half has been great, especially in the power department, but getting this power production from the bottom half of the lineup right at the end of the season bodes well heading into tournament season.

💣💣 Trey Hawsey, 1B Louisiana Tech (Mid Majors)

3-for-4, 2 HR, 2B, 3 R, 3 RBI

💣💣 Wesley Scott, CF Louisiana Tech (Mid Majors)

2-for-4, 2 HR, 2 R, 5 RBI

This is so exciting. Conference USA two to five seeds are all separated by a game with just one left to play now. Louisiana Tech beat Sam Houston again on Friday to keep them close as the five seed. Trey Hawsey and Wesley Scott both homered twice and drove in every run in what amounted to an 8-2 victory. Hawsey scored the first half of the team’s runs, homering in the 1st and 3rd to give an early 3-0 lead. After Sam Houston came back within one, Scott homered in the 7th and 8th to provide an additional five to lead to an easy win. Due to tiebreakers, LA Tech is in the five spot but key losses to Liberty, MO State, and DBU on Saturday can pave the way to the two seed for Tech.

‼️ Cameron Flukey, RHP Coastal Carolina (Mid Majors)

4.0 IP, 2 H, BB, 5 K

Darin Horn, RHP Coastal Carolina (Mid Majors)

5.0 IP, 2 H, BB, 9 K

Flukey looked the closest to form since his return in his Friday start against Louisiana. He pitched the longest outing since his return, lasting four innings and seeing a moderate increase in pitches up to 67. Coastal has to be feeling on top of the world with this Flukey start right before playoffs are about to begin. He held his velocity and his curve carved up a quality opponent. Succeeding Flukey, Darin Horn turned a shutout appearance of his own, throwing five scoreless to close out the game. The top seed in the Sun Belt will come down to the wire as Coastal and Southern Miss enter the final game at a tie.

💣💣💣 Manny Salas, DH Texas State (Mid Majors)

4-for-5, 3 HR, 3 R, 4 RBI

Manny Salas is the latest to join the three homer club with a throng of dongs on Friday. The win over Marshall solidified their spot in the Sun Belt tournament, guaranteeing them a top eight seed. Salas began his day with a solo shot to open the scoring in the 1st. He’d homer again in his next at bat, giving Texas State their second run of the game as they trailed 4-2. Salas’s second homer started a chain of three consecutive bombs that would tie the game. Salas’s final home run came in a tie game in the 7th, breaking that tie with his third solo shot of the day. Texas State lived by the home run, homering seven times in their 12-9 win.

‼️ Calvin Proskey, RHP UC Santa Barbara (Mid Majors)

4.2 IP, 2 H, ER, BB, 6 K

Calvin Proskey is still being handled with extreme caution but he managed to pitch into the 5th inning for just the second time this season. Following a season high in innings and pitches (six and 81), Proskey made it for 4.2 innings pitched using 56 pitches in the process. More promising was the swing and miss he was getting. He’s never been too much of a strikeout guy in the first place but his numbers upon his return were still a good deal below his average, having recorded just eleven strikeouts in eighteen innings. Friday looked more aligned with his average, striking out six in nineteen batters faced, good for a 30%+ K% for the day. Even with the short starts, he’s been handed a great amount of trust having already been placed as the 2nd arm in the rotation after three appearances. With Proskey starting to look fully healthy now, UCSB is entering these next couple weeks with a completely healthy pitching staff for the first time all season.

Luke Pettitte, DH Dallas Baptist (Mid Majors)

3-for-5, HR, 3B, 3 R, RBI, K

The power is already very well known for Pettitte but it can’t be stated enough how powerful he is. He crushed a 493’ homer on Friday and luckily for Jax State, it was only a solo shot. That still didn’t help their result as DBU still won by a score of 10-6. Along with his mammoth home run, Pettitte hit the first triple of his career on the way to a three hit game. Some numbers for Pettitte. He’s rocking close to a 65% hard hit rate with a max EV of 114mph. Every ball off the bat is destroyed and he’s become one of the scariest hitters to face in the nation.

‼️ Carson Turnquist, RHP Cal Poly (Mid Majors)

6.0 IP, 2 H, ER, BB, 9 K, HRA

Carson Turnquist is going to get picked high somewhere. The right-hander finished off an excellent regular season with one run allowed through six innings against Long Beach State. He finished the contest with nine strikeouts and one of his best showings in command all year long. His low-launch heater blended well with his change and curve as Turnquist brings a plus starter’s arsenal in his emergence as one of the top arms in Southern California.

‼️ Karsten Sweum, LHP Gonzaga (Mid Majors)

6.0 IP, 3 H, BB, 9 K

If we combine Sweum’s last three games together, there’s a stretch of 27 outs in a row recorded for a secret no-hitter. Following up his seven inning no hitter from last weekend, Sweum had Seattle hitters flailing with another scoreless outing led by nine strikeouts. Sweum has emerged as the team’s ace since the start of April. He’s turned in quality start after quality start with a much noticed improvement in command. The stuff, headlined by a plus slider and change, has seen a noticeable increase as well, generating a much higher whiff and chase rate. The pitching emergence has been the reason for the Zags big turnaround, turning a 13-14 season into a 34-17 record with one game left to play.
