Rotation Roundup - No More Skubal, Snelling is Here, and Good Luck

I don’t want this article to be nearly as long as it is. No, it’s not because I don’t enjoy sharing information, but it’s because I care about fantasy baseball managers. To say that the state of starting pitching is in shambles with injuries and poor performances would be an understatement. But onwards we go, so let’s take a look at the latest starting pitching news. And yes, there’s a lot. Some of it, though, is good.

Rotation Roundup - Yesavage is Back, Crochet is Out, & Tolle SurgesFilling out a starting rotation isn’t easy. Things change by the minute, and we have to react. On a weekly basis, Ray Kuhn takes a look at some relevant starting pitcher news to help you manage a successful fantasy baseball team.Prospects LiveRay Kuhn

We can never have nice things, can we? It doesn’t get more crushing than Skubal hitting the Injured List following elbow surgery. The time frame is likely three months at a minimum, and it’s fair to doubt whether or not we see Skubal in a Tigers uniform once again.

He was only striking out 45 batters in 43 innings to begin the season, as Skubal has been dealing with this since the beginning of the year. Still, he had a 2.70 ERA and 0.95 WHIP, as there is no replacing the left-hander. With the Tigers likely headed for the postseason, Skubal should return at some point.

You knew this one was coming, right? It’s only a matter of time for both a Dodgers pitcher to get injured and for Glasnow to have health issues. What has been a dominant beginning to the season for Glasnow, 3-0 with a 2.72 ERA, 0.83 WHIP, and 49 strikeouts in 39.2 innings, is now on hold. The right-hander exited his start on Tuesday, and now, we wait.

The first thought would be that the cause, back spasms, is a plus. There’s nothing with the arm or shoulder, and we can exhale. However, Glasnow did spend time on the Injured List in 2024 with back spasms, so until we hear otherwise, I’d expect a repeat trip. How long Glasnow will be out is still in flux, but you know the Dodgers have help coming.

Blake Snell, LHP Los Angeles Dodgers

Things escalated quickly for Snell with regard to opening the season on the Injured List. Fortunately, is that the left-hander has just one rehab start left, and then we should see him back in the Dodgers’ rotation. He got up to four innings and 55 pitches in his last start, with the next step being five innings and 75 pitches. The focus here is more on the process than the results, and the good news is that he was reaching 97.4 miles per hour with his fastball.
