Hiroya Miyagi Scouting Report
Hiroya Miyagi has the highest floor of basically any NPB starter and has put together a career stretch of consistency that is not matched by many lefty starters in NPB. He slotted in as my 3rd best starter going into 2026 behind Hiromi Itoh and Livan Moinelo.
That floor and durability, throwing over 140+ innings in the past three seasons, has now hit a roadblock: in his 3rd start on April 9th, he experienced elbow discomfort and the dreaded worry that he had damaged his UCL. The expectation was to get a second opinion, and so we wait.

Orix Buffaloes LHP Hiroya Miyagi will get a second opinion on his UCL injury next week to determine if he requires Tommy John surgery.
The 24-year-old ace is expected to miss significant time regardless.https://t.co/oiKVm3iefb

While that is a true damper on the momentum Myagi was creating, there’s hope he can come back healthy and around his peak fastball velocity. He’s a touching low-90s fastball pitcher, but his profile is double-plus command and a nasty sweeper. He reminds me of an off-brand Jamie Arnold in his stature and stuff, and to me, he still had the ceiling of a No.4 starter in MLB whenever that transition came.
