Early Single-A Standouts Checking Lots of Boxes (Hitter Edition)

Prospects Live May 5, 2026
Source

Now that we have a 20-ish game sample size in Single-A, I wanted to sort through the data to see which hitters 20 and under are in the top half of the league in all of the following categories: OPS, ISO, BB/K, GB% (inverse), K %, SWSTR, and WRC+. I threw in traditional slash lines, an SPD score,, and a calculated pitcher-per-plate-appearance, just because I find that interesting.

Basically, I wanted to find out which hitters are having the most well-rounded seasons at the plate. A lot of names were players that sickos like myself might expect, but there were also some pretty surprising names that made the list, as well as some surprising omissions. I'll include a short list of "almost" names at the bottom of the article, but for now, I want to dive into some of Single-A’s most well-rounded hitters.

Robert Arias, CF, Guardians

Listed at 5'11 175 lbs, Mejia is one of the older players on this list, but the results speak for themselves. A true utility player, Mejia even pitched in '24 and '25 while with the Orioles, before coming over in the Blaze Alexander deal this February. The Orioles signed Mejia in 2023 for $407,500, and he saw ten games in the DSL that year, followed by a full DSL season in 2024, before going to the Complex league last year (with a random two-game fill-in in High A).

Each of those three seasons, Mejia had an OPS above .800 with more walks than strikeouts. Pretty impressive. The more BB than K trend is continuing in 2026, but the offensive profile is really ticking up, potentially as he grows into his frame.

Mejia isn't a SS, but he can play just about anywhere in a pinch, and this really does look like a plus hit tool and plus approach, potentially with fringe average power that could grow into average pop at maturity. That will absolutely play. Mejia gets rave reviews for his baseball IQ and has average speed. It's probably more of a 15 HR/12-15 SB profile, but Mejia should continue to hit for average, add plenty of doubles, and get on base at a high clip. This is a definite arrow-up player for me, who should really be on a lot more radars. I'd expect a promotion to High A coming soon.

Taitn Gray, 1B, Rays

HS first baseman isn't the sexiest profile ever, but damn does Taitn Gray make it look good. Still just 18, Gray is built like a TE prospect and moves a lot better than you'd expect for a 1B only defender. The bat is definitely the selling point here, but he moves well for his 6'4 frame and is an average runner with solid movement skills.

Gray stands out for his power and bat speed first and foremost, with easy plus power projection, and already produces extremely loud metrics. That said, the hit tool is a lot better than you'd expect for an Iowa prep bat with that kind of pop (Iowa has been disproportionately heavy with legit prep players recently). Gray has an advanced feel for the zone and may have a chance to be an average hitter, though more advanced pitchers could expose some weaknesses. Even if he's fringe-average as a hitter, his plus-to-double-plus raw power and ability to limit weak contact would make him a viable hitter. Anything above that is gravy.

I think Gray has a shot to play some OF as well as 1B, and even if it's just 1B, he looks like he's on a top 100 trajectory.

ALL HE DOES IS HIT TANKS! 💣💪
