  "textContent": "In preparing for the 2026 fantasy baseball season, there are many facts that become quite clear. One of them, to be blunt, is the fact that the third base position isn’t especially strong. The player pool thins out rather quickly. That means we have to work that much harder to find viable options to fill out the starting lineup.\n\nFrom a dynasty perspective, that means digging a little deeper into the player pool. Finding success at the major league level is never a linear path. Hitting big league pitching is not easy. Adjustments have to be made, and it’s not a clear path from Triple-A to the MLB.\n\nThe players that we’re going to take a look at below are certainly illustrative of that. They’ve all displayed and shown legitimate hit tools, but it’s been a choppy road to major league success. However, that doesn’t mean we should bail. If it feels like we've been talking about and waiting for Lawlar for years, it’s because it’s true. The Arizona Diamondbacks drafted Lawlar sixth overall in 2021, but he’s yet to come close to reaching his potential at the major league level. That’s not to say Lawlar hasn’t tried or had success in the minor leagues, but the results in the big leagues haven’t been there. A large part of the issue, though, has been health. The good news is that, at age 23, there’s still plenty of time left for Lawlar to find his groove.\n\nIn both 2022 and 2023, Lawlar showed off what he’s capable of from a power and speed perspective. He slugged 16 home runs and stole 39 bases in 2022, and he followed that up with 20 home runs and 36 stolen bases in 2023. After a lost 2024 season, Lawlar found his groove in Triple-A once again last year. In 63 games, Lawlar couldn’t have done better. His performance showed the true depth of what he’s capable of. Again, it did come at the minor league level, so we have to provide that caveat, but you also can’t dispute the numbers. Lawlar hit .313 with 11 home runs, 50 RBI, 52 runs scored, and 20 stolen bases.\n\nThe problem, though, is that in 286 major league plate appearances, that success didn’t translate. Lawlar hit .182 with no home runs and just five RBI while striking out an insane 35.1% of the time. Not to oversimplify things, but the true Lawlar likely stands somewhere between the two sides of his 2025 performance. While his opportunity in 2026 might come in the outfield, it’s a good thing that Lawlar is versatile defensively. What’s even more notable is his performance through his first 10 spring training games this year. Lawlar is hitting .323 with four home runs to go along with a .419 ISO.
