Dynasty Second Base Targets

From a fantasy baseball perspective, second base is not very deep. While it might be nice, it doesn’t mean we get to ignore the position. For as fun as fantasy baseball is, no one ever said it was easy.

All it means is that we have to try harder and be better. As we look towards building our dynasty teams, second base does require a little more attention. Power is generally not in abundance here, but if not, the hope is that we get some speed. Unfortunately, in a lot of cases, we often don’t get enough of either.

That means we need to make the best of a sometimes less than ideal situation. It also means digging deeper. With that in mind, here are some dynasty second baseman I have my eye on acquiring. There might be some cases where the player is readily available in your dynasty league, but if not, the acquisition price via a trade should be manageable. It’s all about buying low.

The fact that the St. Louis Cardinals are in full rebuild mode works to our advantage. It’s not like Nolan Gorman is just any player, as he’s formally a top prospect. Just because he has lost a lot of that prospect luster, though, it doesn’t mean we should write him off.

Yes, Gorman isn’t perfect. He strikes out way too much, and that has been the biggest issue throughout his career. That has also kept his batting average down. But when Gorman does make contact and squares the ball up, good things generally happen.

And this season, Gorman probably has his best chance to put everything together. After all, he’s slated to begin the season batting cleanup for the Cardinals. In fact, I’d hypothesize that a rebound is in order for Gorman. Just accept that the batting average will never be an asset, but maybe it won’t be a true liability. But more importantly, will he come through on his power potential and upside to make up for it?

In 111 games last season, 402 plate appearances, Gorman finished with 14 home runs, 46 RBI, and 49 runs scored. If we’re looking for good news, Gorman decreased his strikeout rate in 2025. The problem, though, is that it went from 37.6% to 33.8%, but progress is progress.

If he can hold on to that improvement, or continue to build, while also bringing his barrel rate back up to previous levels, then things are in good shape. After previously having barrel rates of 16.5% and 16.7%, it dropped down to 9.1% last season. We know that Gorman can do damage to the ball, so let’s give him a chance to do just that.
