  "textContent": "I ran from my death—\n\nI built walls\n\nbetween me & my death—\n\nI went thru doors,\n\nbolted them behind me,\n\nI wanted to put distance\n\nbetween me & my death—\n\nI barred one door\n\nafter another—\n\nI went down corridors\n\nturning—dashing\n\ninto one room\n\n& then another—\n\nAnd when I had\n\nlocked the final door\n\nbehind me,\n\nAnd when I had\n\nentered the last room,\n\nAnd when I stopped\n\nrunning,\n\nThere was my death\n\nwaiting for me all\n\nthe while sitting on\n\nan easy chair—\n\nIt looked at me\n\nand said,\n\n“Just testing.\n\nJust testing.”\n\n _Alex Caldiero was a beloved poet, sage and “sonosopher” who blended sounds, words and ideas to create a unique form of literature, often performed. Born in Sicily, Italy, and raised in Brooklyn, New York, he died in Utah in February 2026.
