"textContent": "Yesterday we said goodbye to Scarlet Q Canine Porter, faithful companion since we met in 2011. \n\n
\nScarlet, on a beautiful day at Natirar Park, 2020\n{ .img-caption }\n\nWhen she came to live with us, I worked at home while everyone else in the family went off to their various schools. Because of that, I've spent more time awake in her company than probably I have with any other human. \n\n
\nPool day back in NJ\n{ .img-caption }\n\nShe was smart, opinionated, loyal, and a mortal threat to cardboard boxes and socks. \n\n
\nSometimes lazy\n{ .img-caption }\n\n
\nOften thoughtful\n{ .img-caption }\n\nShe started having health problems a while back, getting worse suddenly on the last day were lived in the house in New Jersey. The vets told us to start preparing for this day then. In the 10 months that we've lived here in Philly, the vets here helped us dial in her medications, and she mostly had more good days than bad. \n\n
\nModeling her (failed) grippy socks\n{ .img-caption }\n\n
\nBig yawner\n{ .img-caption }\n\nShe loved being a city dog, quickly learning the layout of the neighborhood and making it clear when we started heading toward home if she was not ready to be done with the walk yet. When she was all walked out, she'd start pulling us back toward the house.\n\n
\nCity dog\n{ .img-caption }\n\nSince Thanksgiving, the bad days started to overtake the good ones, and the past few days got worse quickly. Both kids were able to be here with us at the end, and the last few hours with her were wonderful; she knew how much she was loved by us all, and we all knew that it was mutual. The house is very empty now, and we all miss her terribly. \n\n
\nCloseup\n{ .img-caption }\n\nBacklinks: {#backlinks}\n\n- Annual Report\n\nView Change History",
