Mei-Ling Zhou, a peerless climatologist stationed at Ecobase: Antarctica, was forced into cryostasis along with her team during a raging storm. Unfortunately, the cryostasis lasted longer than expected, leaving Mei awakening nine years later as the sole survivor of a damaged station. With the help of her robotic companion, Nevino, Mei invented new technology to escape Antarctica and join the new Overwatch. To counter the growing climate disruptions ravaging the planet, Overwatch established a series of ecobases scattered across the globe in remote, key locations. Their mission was to study climate change and provide solutions to stabilize or reverse the most significant problems. Mei-Ling Zhou was part of one of these multi-year initiatives. An unparalleled climatologist, she introduced cutting-edge innovations in climate manipulation to protect high-risk areas in Asia and around the world. She was assigned to the Ecobase: Antarctica monitoring program when disaster struck: a sudden polar storm struck the facility, cutting it off from the outside world, damaging the facility, and isolating the scientists. With resources dwindling, they were forced to enter cryostasis to survive until supply lines were reestablished or rescue arrived. But help never came. The team's cryogenic tanks were discovered only years later: Mei was the sole survivor. The world she awoke to had changed considerably: Overwatch was gone, the already serious climate problems had worsened, and none of the ecobases were operational. Everything she and her colleagues had discovered was lost.
