The Tatra K5AR was a specialized articulated tram built by Czechoslovakia’s ČKD between 1970 and 1973 specifically for Cairo, Egypt. Based on the K2 design but adapted for extreme heat, 200 of these bi-directional units were delivered to handle the city's heavy suburban traffic. However, due to the harsh desert environment and insufficient maintenance, the fleet deteriorated rapidly and was entirely withdrawn from service by the early 1990s.
