Custom Door Knob Lever: Fitting to Complex 3D Curves (Adaptive Design Series #4)

"Modeled with FreeCAD's Image Import feature to achieve a perfect fit for complex 3D shapes." This is an adapter to convert a round door knob into a lever-style handle. By allowing operation with the entire lever, it significantly reduces the force required to turn and makes pushing or pulling the door much easier. To fit a unique "barrel-shaped" door knob, I designed a 2-piece structure consisting of a TPU sleeve (for grip and fitting) and a PETG lever. 💡 Design Strategy This project highlights the use of FreeCAD's image import and scaling features: Image Import: I imported a photo taken with a ruler placed at the reference position. Scaling: This allowed me to accurately adjust the scale and position of the photo within the 3D space. Tracing: By tracing the contours using B-Splines, I was able to replicate complex curved surfaces without the need for high-end measuring equipment. Structural Recommendation: Add vertical and horizontal internal ribs (2mm thick) with 100% infill for maximum durability of the lever. 📐 Specifications Sleeve Dimensions: Outer Φ54mm, Width 25.5mm, Inner Max Φ50.3mm (Barrel-shaped).
