They are also known as 滇橄榄 (dian gan lan). This round fruit has a distinctive flavor that starts slightly astringent, then turns sweet and refreshing as you chew, leaving a lingering, throat-soothing finish. In Yunnan, it’s commonly eaten fresh, dipped in chili-salt, or infused into drinks, soups, and spirits for its clean, herbal-fruity aroma.
