Webcam Privacy Cover

I needed to replace a notebook webcam with an external unit. The one I had on-hand did not have a privacy cover, nor could I find a simple one on any of the 3d model repositories.

Requirements were minimalist design and functionality. While I found units specifically designed for this Logitech C525, they all featured intricate attachment brackets and required post processing after printing.

Instead, I spent half an hour to design a fully parameterized cover, one printed with in-place hinge and without supports.

Design

It consists of an L-bracket with a hinged flap, simply mounted to the back of a webcam using two vertical strips of 3M double-side tape.

All aspects of the design are parameterized to allow re-printing for different webcams: heights, width, depth, thickness and hinge sizing. The third prototype was perfect. Free moving in-place printed hinge, protrudes below webcam just enough to catch the flap with a finger, and has a backstop to hold the flap upright.

To reinforce that the webcam is uncovered, I placed a contrasting RED X label on the inside.
