"textContent": "The Institute on Religion and Democracy hosted the Rev. Porter Harlow of Christ Presbyterian Church in Burke, Virginia, on May 6 for our “Wednesday Worship” noonday prayer and luncheon. His sermon was on “Flourishing or Frustration” in Psalm 127.\n\nThe monthly gathering aims to foster Christian fellowship within the greater Washington area. IRD hosts prominent Christian leaders to deliver sermons, pray, and facilitate worship.\n\nIn addition to graduating from Reformed Theological Seminary, Harlow is a graduate of the University of South Carolina School of Law. He is an adjunct professor at George Mason University’s Schar School of Policy and Government where he teaches a class on the Law and Ethics of War. He is the author of _How Should We Treat Detainees: An Examination of Enhanced Interrogation Techniques under the Light of Scripture and the Just War Tradition_(Presbyterian & Reformed, 2016), which _World Magazine_ selected as a runner up for Book of the Year in 2016. He also authored “Remembering Paul Ramsey’s “The Just War” published by _Reformed Faith & Practice_ in 2018. Before going to seminary, Harlow taught at The Army JAG School in Charlottesville, Virginia, and contributed numerous chapters and articles on law of war topics for the _The Army Lawyer_ and the _The_ _Operational Law Handbook._\n\nVideo of the worship service can be accessed in downloadable podcast format below via IRD’s YouTube channel.\n\nIf you are interested in joining IRD for worship, please contact Events and Outreach Director Sarah Stewart at SStewart@TheIRD.org.\n\n**More from IRD** :\n\nPresbyterian and Reformed Public Theology: Porter Harlow\n\nChrist Presbyterian Church, Burke, VA\n\nThe post Wednesday Worship with the Rev.
