Basic question on the rms book calculation

In chapter 18.1.2 an example for the exponential distribution is given. The problem that I have is with the expected life length \mu. The MLE of \mu is w/n_u, I get that but the estimated variance is w^2/n_u^3. Where does this expression come from?
