How do you sieve/filter/manage your internet mail?

Especially lobsters that are subscribed to twenty mailing lists and review a ton of patches. Do you have a particular workflow regarding archival and labels? What (preferably FOSS) tooling has been significantly helpful? Do you use something such as Sieve scripts?
