Runes in Broken Blade hand your character an extra passive ability on top of your weapon, race, elements, and blessings. Every Rune attaches one effect, and most of them roll on a chance to trigger during combat. There are two reliable ways to obtain them, and both run through boss content rather than regular questing.

How to get Runes from the Greedy Shop with Boss Coins

The Greedy Shop is the most predictable source. It sits inside the Colosseum, which you reach through the Nidavellir teleport point. The shop sells Runes for Boss Coins, a currency you build up by defeating bosses.

Step 1: Gather Boss Keys. You need them to summon bosses, and the number required scales with the boss and its difficulty.

Boss Keys are used to summon raid bosses for farming.

Step 2: Defeat the summoned bosses to earn Boss Coins. Tougher bosses with better rewards cost more keys, but they keep your coin total climbing.

Step 3: Travel to the Colosseum through Nidavellir and open the Greedy Shop. Pick the Rune you want and confirm the purchase once you have enough coins.

One important limit: the Crit Rune is not sold here. If that is the Rune you want, you have to farm it from the dungeon instead.

How to get Runes from the Sky Spire dungeon

The second method is a drop farm. Head to Jotunheim and enter the Sky Spire portal. Runes can drop inside the dungeon as you clear it, and this is the only place the Crit Rune appears. That particular Rune comes from the boss on Layer 80, so you need to push deep into the dungeon to reach it.

The two standout choices are the Crit Rune and the Shadow Clone Rune. They serve different needs, so the right one depends on your build.

The Crit Rune wins on consistency. It steadily raises your Critical Damage and Critical Chance with no reliance on a proc, which makes it dependable across every fight. The Shadow Clone Rune is the strongest of the chance-based options. Even though it depends on RNG, the two clones each hit for 3x your M1 damage, and that output outweighs the randomness.

The remaining Runes from the Greedy Shop are weaker by comparison. Souls Bomb, Hell Fire, Thunder, and Blizzard all hinge on chance and deliver lower payoffs, so they are not worth spending Boss Coins on if you can work toward Shadow Clone instead. Among the shop stock, Shadow Clone is the only purchase that holds up, since the Crit Rune cannot be bought there at all.
