Flareon evolution, stats, and locations in Pokémon

All Things How June 2, 2026
Source

Flareon is the Fire-type member of Eevee's family of evolutions, first introduced in Generation I as one of the original three eeveelutions alongside Vaporeon and Jolteon. It is the Flame Pokémon, National Pokédex number 0136, and it leans heavily on raw Attack power rather than speed or bulk.

🔥

Quick answer: Give an Eevee a Fire Stone. The moment you use the stone, Eevee evolves into Flareon every time, regardless of level or friendship.

How to evolve Eevee into Flareon with a Fire Stone

Flareon has only one path. You cannot reach it by leveling up, trading, or raising friendship. You must use a Fire Stone on an Eevee, and that single action triggers the evolution instantly.

Step 1: Add an Eevee to your party or have one ready in your boxes. Eevee itself is a Normal-type and shares this base form with all eight evolutions.

Step 2: Obtain a Fire Stone. The fastest source changes from game to game, so use the table below to find the closest option in your version.

Step 3: Open your Bag, select the Fire Stone, and use it on Eevee. The evolution animation plays immediately, and Eevee becomes Flareon. You will know it worked when the Pokédex registers Flareon and it learns Ember on evolving.

⚠️

Note: A Fire Stone always produces Flareon. If you instead want Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, Glaceon, or Sylveon, do not use the stone, since those forms rely on friendship, location, or move conditions.

Flareon base stats and Pokédex data

Flareon's signature trait is its 130 base Attack, which is unusually high for a Pokémon best known for special Fire moves. Its bulk is split, with low Defense and a strong Special Defense of 110.

Flareon type weaknesses and resistances

As a pure Fire-type, Flareon has a clean and predictable matchup chart. It takes double damage from three common attacking types, so plan switches around them before committing it to a battle.

Matchup Types
Weak to Water, Ground, Rock
Resistant to Fire, Grass, Ice, Bug, Steel, Fairy
Normal damage Normal, Fighting, Poison, Electric, Ghost, Psychic, Dragon, Dark, Flying
Immune to None

💡

Tip: Flareon's Flash Fire ability also blocks incoming Fire attacks and boosts its own Fire moves once hit, which turns one of its resistances into an offensive advantage.

Where to find Flareon in each generation

In most mainline games, the only way to get Flareon is to evolve your own Eevee. A handful of titles let you encounter or trade for it directly, and the Legends games hide it behind special spawns.

Games How to obtain
Red / Blue / Yellow Evolve Eevee
Gold / Silver / Crystal Evolve Eevee
Ruby / Sapphire / Emerald Trade
FireRed / LeafGreen Evolve Eevee
Diamond / Pearl / Platinum / HGSS Evolve Eevee
Black / White Trade or Global Link event
Black 2 / White 2 Evolve Eevee
X / Y / ORAS Evolve Eevee
Sun / Moon / USUM / Let's Go Evolve Eevee
Sword / Shield Lake of Outrage and Giant's Cap (Max Raid Battles)
Brilliant Diamond / Shining Pearl Evolve Eevee
Legends: Arceus Space-Time Distortions in Crimson Mirelands and Cobalt Coastlands
Scarlet / Violet South Province (Areas Five and Six), North Province (Area One, Dalizapa Passage), and 6★ Tera Raid Battles
Legends: Z-A Centrico Plaza (Wild Zone 20)

Catching Flareon in Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Flareon cannot be caught in the open world of the Hisui region. It only appears inside Space-Time Distortions, the purple domes that spawn at random on the Crimson Mirelands and Cobalt Coastlands maps. Enter a Distortion, ride around to spawn Pokémon, and throw a Great Ball or Ultra Ball at Flareon once it appears. If it does not show up, leave and wait for the next Distortion.

Flareon's moveset in recent games

Flareon learns Ember the instant it evolves, then builds toward stronger Fire attacks as it levels. The list below covers its level-up moves in Scarlet and Violet, capped by the powerful Flare Blitz at level 50.

Level Move Type
On evolution Ember Fire
5 Sand Attack Ground
10 Quick Attack Normal
15 Baby-Doll Eyes Fairy
20 Smog Poison
25 Bite Dark
30 Fire Fang Fire
35 Fire Spin Fire
40 Lava Plume Fire
45 Scary Face Normal
50 Flare Blitz Fire
55 Last Resort Normal

Because Flareon's Attack stat dwarfs its Special Attack, physical Fire moves such as Flare Blitz and Fire Fang squeeze the most out of it, while TM options like Flamethrower, Overheat, and Will-O-Wisp give you special and support coverage when you need it.

Flareon in Pokémon GO

In Pokémon GO, Flareon is a budget Fire attacker with an attack-heavy spread of 246 ATK, 179 DEF, and 163 HP. Its maximum Combat Power reaches 3424 CP at level 50, and its encounters are boosted in sunny weather.

Detail Value
Type Fire
Weak to Ground, Rock, Water
Best moveset Fire Spin / Overheat
Max CP (Lvl 50) 3424
Buddy distance 5 km
Shiny available Yes

For raids, Fire Spin paired with Overheat gives Flareon its fastest damage output, and the constant supply of Eevee candy makes it an easy Fire attacker to power up early on. It is far weaker as a gym defender, where its thin bulk and common Ground-type counters drop it to the bottom tier.

Whether you are filling out a Pokédex or building a Fire attacker, the route to Flareon comes down to one item. Keep a spare Eevee on hand, grab a Fire Stone from the nearest source in your game, and the rest is a single button press.
