Universal Tower Defense X Units and Abilities (Update 3)

All Things How May 25, 2026
Source

Universal Tower Defense X runs on a roster of anime-inspired units split across rarity tiers, each with distinct passives, elements, and placement roles. Update 3 Part 1: Clash of Wills layered in a wave of One Piece characters and reshuffled the meta, so the unit pool now spans Rare farm helpers all the way up to Boundless evolutions like The Strongest in History.

⚔️

Quick answer: Units are grouped into Rare, Epic, Legendary, Mythic, Secret, Exclusive, Universal, and Boundless tiers. The strongest non-Synchro DPS right now is The Strongest in History (Sukuna), while Bulmo and Fastcart handle farming.

Unit roles and placement types

Every unit fits one of five placement roles, and that role decides which enemies it can hit and where you can drop it on the map. Knowing the role matters more than raw rarity when you're building a team.

Role What it does
Ground Standard placement that targets ground enemies along the path.
Hill Placed on elevated tiles; usually long range, hits both air and ground.
Hybrid Flexible placement that handles both air and ground targets.
Support Buffs allies or debuffs enemies rather than dealing primary damage.
Farm Generates extra cash during a match instead of fighting.

Rare units

Rare units form the early-game backbone. They're cheap to summon and useful for clearing story stages before stronger pulls show up.

Unit Element / Role Key ability
Nutaru (Kid) Water / Ground 17% base crit chance; gains +30% attack and range near any Sasku at Etherealization 6.
Namo Water / Ground Places a bounty on a target; killing it pays out 3x yen.
Roku Fire / Ground Stacks +5% damage per attack, resets at the start of every new wave.
Gaaru Water / Ground Permanently immune to stun damage.
Laffy Wind / Ground +10% range for each unique Pirate Crew unit on the team.
Ranji Wind / Ground +1% attack on each unit attack, capped at +10%.
Orahemi Rose / Hill At max upgrade, shields one nearby unit from stun damage.

Epic units

Epics start filling specific niches: team buffs, crit support, and the all-important Fastcart farm option.

Unit Element / Role Key ability
Nejo Wind / Ground Grants allies in range +5% crit chance.
Masked Ninja (Kakashi) Fire / Ground +12% range and damage to every Team 7 unit on the field.
Fire Foot Cook (Sanji) Fire / Ground +25% damage to enemies suffering Burn.

Fastcart (Speedwagon) Rose / Farm Each unit placed while Fastcart is on the field cuts his next upgrade cost by 5%.

Legendary units

Legendaries are where damage output starts mattering. Bulmo is the staple farm pick at this tier, while units like Pebble and Greybeard handle real DPS work.

Unit Element / Role Key ability
Zorus (Zora) Dark / Ground Places up to 3 traps: stun for 3s or apply 20% Radiation.
Gen (Gin Ichimaru) Fire / Ground Gains +1% attack for every point of range he has.

Pebble (Rock Lee) Rose / Hybrid +0.5% attack per knockback applied, up to 40%.
Greybeard (Blackbeard) Dark / Ground +65% damage to Armored enemies.

Mythic units

Mythics are where most competitive teams live. Spade is currently the top Hill DPS, especially paired with the Flaming Donut Hat relic, and Super Roku functions as both a placement-shifting nuker and a relic source.

Unit Element / Role Key ability
Shakumira (Shikamaru) Light / Ground +0.10–0.15% range per slowed enemy, capping at +20–25%.
Admiral (Akainu) Fire / Ground Leaves 5s lava puddles that confuse enemies for 2s on contact.
Scarlet Maid (Sakuya) Light / Hybrid Stops time, stuns enemies, and self-buffs damage via a kill-charged gauge.
Spade (Ace) Fire / Hill Applies Burn for 60% damage over 4s and bypasses armor damage reduction.
Rule (Law) Water / Ground +20% damage and +10% cooldown on tagged enemies.
Shunks (Shanks) Rose / Ground +20% damage to allies in range when a boss spawns; immune to stun.
Virtual Idol (Miku) Light / Hybrid Choose Damage or Range track to buff allies up to +10%.
Sasku (Sasuke) Dark / Ground 50% chance to stun on hit; 50% chance to dodge attacks.
Mob Rose / Ground Applies wind shear on every hit; confused enemies take more damage.
Kriatu (Kirito) Ice / Ground Fixed 30% crit rate; follow-up attacks at 15 and 50 crit milestones.
Cyborg Disciple (Genos) Fire / Hill Applies Burn; repeated hits on burning targets stack up to +40% damage.
Berserker (Kenpachi) Light / Ground Ignores 30% of elemental armor restrictions.
Sharpshooter (Shino) Fire / Hill Marks the highest-HP enemy for 20s; mark triggers AOE Burn and +15% damage taken.
Koyote (Stark) Ice / Hybrid After 15 soul claims, next 5 attacks chain into triple cero beams.
Ultiorra (Ulquiorra) Dark / Hill 10% chance on first range entry to stun, speed buff, or strip HP.
Tierabel (Halibel) Water / Hill Shares speed/damage with Nelle in range; every 30 kills sends a path-clearing wave.
Nelle (Nelliel) Rose / Ground +2% damage per consecutive hit on same target; buffs Ichiko in range.
Super Roku Light / Hill Instant Transmission re-places him with +30% damage for 15s; line beam stuns 3s.

The Drink (Trunks) Water / Ground Burn on hit, +20% damage to full-HP enemies, random 10–20% extra damage per attack.

Secret units

Secrets sit at the rarest end of the standard pool and usually drop from world raids or legend stage acts. Update 3 added Dragon Warlord, Gluttonous Warlord, and Sharpshooter King to this tier.

Unit Element / Role Key ability
Jinoo (Sung Jin-Woo) Dark / Ground Spends 70% mana to summon 15 Shadow Soldiers at 75% of his damage, or 40% mana for Shadow Domain.
Lulu (Lelouch) Dark / Hybrid Stuns enemies 4s, forces collisions, and reverses movement 40% of the time in range.
Ichiko (Ichigo) Dark / Ground +1% crit chance per crit (cap 15%); crits halt regen 2s and stun 5s.
Dragon Guy (Ragna) Ice / Ground Freezes, stuns, and slows; massive scaling when Resolve activates.
Phantom Captain Light / Hybrid Summons 4 Phantom Planes that patrol the path and explode for 15% AOE damage.

Dragon Warlord (Kaido) Hybrid DPS with crowd control and boss-killer follow-ups; benefits from macro use in Dragon Form.
Gluttonous Warlord (Big Mom) Summon-based DPS where most damage comes from follow-up attacks and elite DoTs.

Exclusive units

Exclusives come from battlepasses, capsules, or limited banners and tend to fill specialized DPS roles.

Unit Element / Role Key ability
Footballer (Isagi) Fire / Ground Damage scales with the strongest enemy's missing HP; failed kills buff allies +10%.
Jangluu (Jing Liu) Ice / Hill Slash deals 200% (300–500% on Frozen); applies Freeze on range entry without stun.

String Warlord (Doffy) Hill DPS that fights through clones, with Birdcage active for stuns, slows, and damage amp.
Quake Warlord (Whitebeard) Battlepass DPS unit from Blitz Mode rewards.

Universal and Boundless units

Universal and Boundless are the top of the rarity ladder. Universals like Joyful Captain let you commit to one of three passive paths, while Boundless evolutions stack massive multi-passive kits.

Unit Tier / Role Key ability
Joyful Captain (Luffy) Universal / Hybrid Choose one of three paths: Snakeman (chain attacks, dodge, conqueror stun), Bounceman (charge stacks for damage/range/knockback, armor bonus), or Joyboy (random AOE variants, bouncy zones, knockback combo).
The Strongest in History (Sukuna) Boundless / Ground Domain Expansion grants +1,000% range and pulses 20% damage; Shadow Emerge follow-ups stack +5% damage; Ten Umbra summons Perfect and Adaptive Curses with shared immunities.
The Strongest of Today (Gojo) Boundless / Ground Limitless Sorcerer slows and amps damage 25%; Infinite Purple deals 300% map-wide; Domain Expansion locks enemies in 30s Timestop for 150% damage; immune to debuffs.

Synchro units

Synchro units aren't pulled directly. They're created by fusing two specific max-upgrade units on the field, and they currently put out the highest single-slot DPS in the game at the cost of using two placement slots.

Synchro Fusion Notes
Unparalleled Armor Nutaru (Beast) + Ancient Shinobi (Reawakened) 3s stun/confuse on every attack and armor break; strongest Synchro overall.
Majestic Armor Nutaru (Beast) + Sasku (Great War) Heavy crit damage and on-hit DoTs with strong raw output.
Underworld God Synchro Underworld God (Death) + Water God (Primordial) Self-DPS buffs, armor damage, and debuff cleanse.
Jane Juliet & Mimicry Sorcerer (Clash) Max upgrade in each other's range Combined beam deals 500% of the two units' average damage. Not a fusion, just a triggered attack.

To fuse a Synchro unit, both source units have to be at max upgrade. The fused result inherits the stats, traits, and relics from only one of the two — you choose which when triggering the drive.

How to summon units

Units come from the Summon area, with a rotating banner that determines which characters are available.

Step 1: Open the Areas menu on the left side of the screen and travel to the Summon area to see the current banner.

Step 2: Pick between a 1x Summon for 50 gems or a 10x Summon for 500 gems. The 10x option locks in better odds for higher rarities on most banners.

Step 3: Check banner rotations regularly. Limited Exclusives and event characters cycle out, and missing a window usually means waiting for a rerun.

💎

Tip: Save gems for banners featuring Secret or Boundless evolution materials. Pulling on standard banners without a featured Mythic+ usually burns resources for limited gain.

Team building in UTDX comes down to mixing roles rather than chasing rarity. A solid setup pairs one farm unit (Bulmo or Fastcart), one strong Hill DPS like Spade or a Boundless evolution, a Hybrid for air/ground coverage, and at least one support or debuffer to keep waves locked down. Once Synchro fusions are unlocked, you can collapse two of those slots into a single high-DPS placement and free up room for more utility.
