"textContent": "I haven't really been writing recently. My routine's a bit out of whack—that's how it's felt all year. Occasionally, I'll slip into gear, but mostly it's been a series of false-starts and playing catch-up. Lately, when I sit down to write, I find myself oddly distracted. It's felt mostly like I've been succeeding in spite of myself. It's not a question of diligence, but one of direction.\n\nI think part of this comes from having new, higher standards for myself. I've proved to myself I can study well, make photography I'm happy with, sit down and write my 500 words a day until something comes out of the mist—but that's not really enough anymore. I know I can _lock in_ , _do the work_ ; now I need to know where it's going.\n\nThis is __Refrakt__ , a bi-weekly newsletter from Ian J. Battaglia on curiosity, creativity, and (hopefully!) insight, through the lens of photography, writing, study, art and beauty, and my life.\n\n### This post is for subscribers only\n\nBecome a member to get access to all content\n\nSubscribe now",
