Completed in 1981, the striking Hill Road Flyover was designed to alleviate traffic congestion in the Shek Tong Tsui neighborhood by providing a bypass from the hillside directly down to the harbour. The flyover is, at parts, 5 or 6 storeys above Hill Road below, traveling 650 meters from its start on Pok Fu Lam Road, snaking down to Connaught Road West. Despite being relatively brief, the journey by vehicle down the flyover can be exhilarating, slaloming between buildings while at eye level with apartment units on either side. The view from underneath the elevated road is also remarkable, as the flyover's curved shape breaks up the monotony of the straight lines of the surrounding urban environment.
