To old friends and new friends,

This is how I think it began.

It is true that on March 3, the Group 6 website was scraped. An unknown person used automated tools to bulk scrape game recordings and player data from the Group 6 website.

We identified the IP address involved through server logs.

And yes, it is also true that Kezza has chosen to incorporate the scraped Group 6 recordings and player data into defconexpanded.com, rather than take the honorable action — the action all other server owners would take — and return the scraped recordings.

Never before in our small community has a server owner taken scraped recordings and attempted to profit from them as Kezza does on defconexpanded.com. And this action by Kezza is all the more distressing when we consider that defconexpanded.com went from 2,000+ original recordings to 160,000+.

And he is on the record saying this.

Some of us have been at this a long time, haven’t we.

Our community survived old friends fading away, and new friends joined revitalizing us.

For a brother may oppose a brother, argue with a brother here and on Discord, but a brother shall never profit from recordings that were never his to use.

We shall keep the traditions of DEFCON, or we shall have none at all.

Therefore I will BOYCOTT DEFCONEXPANDED.com and its dedicated servers and ask you all do the same.

This is until such time as Kezza comes to his senses and all stolen scraped group6.info recordings are removed from defconexpanded.com and returned.
