Sirens are like amphibians, but in reverse. The adults are aquatic and the young are terrestrial, hatching from eggs laid on land. When they’re mature, the adults call them back to sea with musical vocalizations and pull them into the water to help them begin their metamorphosis, entering a coma-like state as their bodies adapt to aquatic life, before they can join their pod in the deep ocean.
