But at an event in Sydney today, Chinese wearables brand Rokid officially launched in Australia with its latest AI smart glasses.\n\nThe flagship Rokid Glasses weigh just 49g and squeeze dual-eye Micro-LED displays, a 12MP first-person camera, open-ear speakers and a four-mic array into a frame that looks like a regular pair of glasses.\n\nIPX4 water resistance means a bit of rain won't end the day, and a magnetic clip-on system supports prescription and astigmatism lenses, so the glasses aren't limited to people with perfect vision.\n\nWhat sets Rokid apart from Meta's Ray-Bans is an open approach to AI. Rokid Glasses are among the first smart glasses to support multiple large language models, including Google Gemini and OpenAI ChatGPT, so you're not locked into a single ecosystem.\n\nReal-time translation across 89 languages with live subtitles is another feature that puts the hardware in a different category to anything currently available locally.\n\nUsers can capture hands-free photos and 1680P video, ask the AI assistant questions on the go, receive notifications, and access voice-controlled navigation and AR overlays.\n\nThe platform is backed by more than 30,000 registered XR developers building experiences across productivity, translation, accessibility and entertainment, which suggests the app ecosystem has more substance than the typical day-one launch promises.\n\nPrivacy is the obvious question that follows any camera-equipped glasses into a public space. Rokid addresses this with a recording indicator light that activates when the camera is in use, similar to the approach Meta takes with the Ray-Bans.\n\nWhether that's enough is yet to be seen given how young the entire category is.\n\nThe Australian lineup also includes two companion products.\n\nRokid AR Spatial is focused on an augmented reality experience, with 3D cinema, spatial media capture and console gaming at the forefront.\n\nThe Rokid Glasses Neo is a more minimal version of the premium AI glasses with swappable lenses in six colours.
