Samsung's biggest-ever washer-dryer wants to kill your daily laundry grind

Even though we currently have a large 11 kg washing machine at home, it seems like we're washing every single day just to stay on top of things for a family of four.

Samsung's new Bespoke AI Laundry Combo promises to make it a bit easier by increasing the capacity of the washer to a huge 19.5 kg, while the heat pump dryer can manage 10 kg capacities.

The machine comes with a Super Speed cycle, which promises to complete a full wash-and-dry cycle in just 68 minutes for loads up to 3 kg.

That's made possible by a high-pressure Speed Spray and Swirl+ drum that helps detergent penetrate faster, combined with a new Booster Heat Exchanger that accelerates the drying side.

For larger loads, the updated AI Wash & Dry+ system handles the guesswork. It weighs the load to determine the right amount of water and detergent, identifies up to five fabric types (including denim and outdoor gear) for loads under 3 kg, and monitors soil levels in real time to adjust the cycle as it goes.

The whole product is designed around its energy efficiency. The heat pump dryer carries a 10-star energy rating, and AI Energy Mode can reduce wash energy consumption by up to 20% and dry energy use by up to 10%, compared to running the same cycle without it.

Real-time usage tracking via the SmartThings app also lets you set consumption targets and get alerts if you're heading over.

I'm sure my wife would love the newAuto Open Door+ feature, given how many times she needs to remind us all to leave our wahser door open.

After a wash-only cycle, the new combo machine automatically opens the drum door and circulates air inside, helping prevent that damp, musty odour that builds up when laundry sits too long.

Bixby now understands natural, conversational requests rather than rigid voice commands. You can say "wash this before 11pm" or "add an extra rinse" and it'll work out what needs to happen. You can also use the machine's AI Home Touchscreen to control other connected Samsung devices around the house without leaving the laundry.

Other carried-over features from the previous generation include Flex Auto Dispense (enough detergent for up to 22 loads), BubbleWash and BubbleSoak for effective cold-water cleaning, and a "Less Microfibre" cycle that reduces fibre shedding during washing.

Samsung is backing the machine with seven years of software updates and it holds the top Diamond-level IoT security rating from UL Solutions.

Phil Gaut, Director of Consumer Electronics at Samsung Australia, said the machine was designed around real household demands.

"Our insights show that a third of Australians complete three or more loads of laundry each week, with washing demands expected to increase during the cooler months. The new Bespoke AI Laundry Combo is designed to help ease household pressures by combining fast wash-to-dry cycles, intelligent energy optimisation, and ultra-large capacity in one connected appliance."
