BTTR Roundup #76: Samsung wants AI to make the World Cup watchable. I'm here for it.
Today I had the chance to hear from Samsung's TV engineers about some of the technologies that make up their 2026 lineup of televisions. While all the TV companies seem to be talking about RGB this year, it was good to hear a bit about how Samsung has approached the new backlighting technology.
There was a lot of information to try and digest, but one of the key aspects I was excited to hear more about was the AI Soccer Mode, which lets AI optimise the image for the speed of a football match, as well as giving you the ability to adjust the volume of both the commentary and the crowd.
I doubt we'll experience the deafening roar of vuvuzelas at this year's World Cup, but being able to quiet down the USA chanting in the match against Australia is going to be a massive selling point for Samsung this year.
We know sporting events are massive drivers for TV purchases, and with the World Cup now less than a month away, it might be a very good time to start shopping if you're thinking about upgrading for the world's biggest sporting event.
If you're thinking about getting a new TV soon (or have recently upgraded), let me know what you went with and why! I'm keen to understand what Aussies are choosing.
Until next week

This week's news
- Colour me impressed: Amazon's all-new Kindle Scribe lineup is heading to Australia – yeah, this is the colour Kindle to buy, I think.
- Plaud wants to remember everything so you don't have to – There are some major privacy concerns with these devices. I'm sure it will be an issue in the future.
- DJI goes to Cannes (and brings a very small camera) – I just got the Osmo Pocket 4 in for review, and they've already announced its sequel.
- Blend, flip, sip: Ninja's new BlendBOSS is the blender that wants to come with you – I love colourful kitchen gadgets! This looks amazing.
- Film's not dead: Insta360 turns its tiny GO 3S into a retro street camera – Insta360's latest bundle is a bit niche.
- Sony's Alpha 7R VI lands with 66.8MP and a blistering new telephoto lens – This camera is an absolute beast.
- JURA Z10 2nd Generation launches in Australia with 51 speciality coffees and a new chocolate attachment – You know a product was the bomb if it gets a "2nd generation".
- Aqara's G400 is the wired doorbell for people who are sick of dead batteries – I am definitely considering getting a wired video doorbell now.
New reviews
- Motorola Signature review: Moto finally shows up to the flagship fight – I reckon this is arguably the phone of the year so far.
- Trend Micro Security Suite Pro Plus review: Peace of mind… in pieces – You have no idea how hard it is to review a product designed to work in the background without you noticing.
- Seven Seasons Green Ant Gin review: Australian gin with bite – Something from left field from me this week. But a really great experience.
