BTTR Roundup #75: The return of Fitbit, fresh reviews, and 108 deals worth your time

BTTR Reviews May 8, 2026
Source

Today's news that Google was launching a new Fitbit kicked me right in the nostalgia. Fitbit was one of those startup brands that somehow manages to capture the imagination of its customers through a combination of great hardware and software.

I remember reviewing the Fitbit Zip while on holidays at Burleigh Heads back around 2013, and losing it on the beach. I mourned that loss.

The new Fitbit kind of looks like a product built by a company that has forgotten how to really innovate. My first impression on seeing pictures of the Fitbit Air was that I hope Whoop has good lawyers.

The second thought was that the Fitbit Air isn't actually about the hardware. It's about the AI health features Google launched alongside it.

Some of the features sound like they could be useful. I say this as someone who is actively trying to improve my health. But I'm also a little wary of giving Google's AI too much of my personal information, regardless of the security and privacy promises it makes.

But to each their own. In some ways, I'm happy to see the Fitbit brand continue, even if it is a shell of what it once was.

What do you think? Will the promise of a new AI-enabled Fitbit entice you back to the brand?

Until next week
