Take-Two CEO Reaffirms GTA 6 Release Date

Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has once again confirmed that GTA 6 , the most anticipated title in the gaming world, will be released on November 19, 2026. Zelnick also candidly admitted that the game is about 18 months behind its original internal targets.

Appearing as a guest on the Founders podcast hosted by David Senra, Zelnick gave a clear answer to months of speculation. When asked about the release date, he put an end to the debate by saying, 'November 19. I know.'

Being quite frank about the delays, the CEO said, 'I think we are about 18 months behind the original date. Not much more than that.'

Take-Two Isn't Panicking Despite Delays

Zelnick attributed this delay to Take-Two 's philosophy of prioritizing creative quality over strict release schedules. He cited the original Borderlands game as an example.

Just two months before the game's scheduled release, the development team wanted to completely change the art style. This move resulted in a massive $50 million cost and a full-year delay of the launch. Zelnick approved the decision.

'If we hadn't done that, Borderlands wouldn't have been a hit,' said Zelnick. 'It was a decision that wasn't exactly obvious. I'm almost certain no one else in the industry would have done it.'

The CEO also addressed why the GTA 6 schedule has garnered so much global interest. He noted that most people see the game as the 'most valuable entertainment intellectual property (IP) ever created' in terms of scale.

The ongoing success of GTA V , thanks to continuous updates and its online ecosystem, provides Rockstar Games with the financial flexibility to handle delays without panicking. Zelnick said, 'Online games are highly social experiences.'

This confirmation comes after intense rumors surrounding the November date. Previously, reports about GTA 6 delay rumors and comments from former Rockstar developers stating that the game could not withstand another delay had occupied the news agenda quite a bit.
