According to Engadget's report, software engineer Chris Nager made all this possible. Instead of running a simple command that redirects you to a third-party site or service, he found a way to run the game directly in the chat window.

This system can run on LLM (Large Language Model) clients like ChatGPT and Claude and, when implemented correctly, can be activated by writing just a single command: “Play DOOM.”

Within seconds, DOOM appears in the chat window and greets you with a message stating it's ready to play without you needing to install anything or go anywhere else on the internet.

Nager said in his blog post detailing the creation process, 'It's always fun to see DOOM ported to new surfaces,' 'This project is a testament that ChatGPT and Claude can run DOOM.'

Furthermore, this function even partially works when chatting with LLMs in mobile apps. So if you want to play a quick game of DOOM while out and about, you now have a new option.
