Modern Warfare 4 Might Not Come to Xbox Game Pass

Following Microsoft's massive Activision Blizzard acquisition completed in 2023, the future of the Call of Duty series and its position on Xbox Game Pass continues to be a topic of discussion. Corden stated that Call of Duty's massive player base and revenue model could create a 'loss' for Game Pass. 'I think one of the biggest reasons for the Game Pass price increases in recent years is Call of Duty,' Corden said, arguing that the series' size negatively impacts the service's business model.

'Call of Duty is so big that even if it has a bad year, it hurts Game Pass. At the same time, players playing with a cheap subscription instead of buying the game adversely affects the series' revenues.'

Leaks from within the industry indicate that Microsoft may create a new subscription tier that includes more expensive and larger productions to solve this problem. If this doesn't happen, it could be considered to sell major titles like Modern Warfare 4 at full price on release day and add them to the service much later.

Corden continued, 'If they take Call of Duty off Game Pass this year, which I hear is a possibility, it will reveal cracks in the strategy.' The fact that Call of Duty is not an exclusive game and revenues are falling could push Microsoft to make this difficult decision.

If these claims turn out to be true, players will need to open their wallets to access the game on launch day. However, it is also possible that the game will be added to the library later. It is rumored that the CoD game coming in 2026 could share a similar fate.
