Sony is Cleaning "Trash Games" from the PS Store

Sony continues to take radical steps to clean up game clutter on the PlayStation Store. Games known as 'shovelware,' which usually consist of low-quality content, are being removed from the store one by one. One of the latest victims of this cleanup operation was Jesus Simulator.

Sony's war against these types of publishers is not actually new. The company has been striving to make the store higher quality for a long time. As you may recall, we witnessed over 1,000 low-quality games being delisted from the platform in the past period. Now, new ones have been added to this list.

Jesus Simulator is No Longer on the PS Store

According to information shared via PSN Profiles; games from publishers such as GoGame Console Publisher , VRCForge Studios , and Welding Byte have been removed from the store. Deleted games include Urban Driver Simulator , Water Blast Shooter – Wet Gun , Racing Car Chaos: Extreme Stunt Showdown , Supermarket CEO Simulator , and Jesus Simulator. None of these games can currently be downloaded via the PlayStation Store.

These 'trash games' encountered by players are generally divided into two groups. The first group consists of clones that try to grab a share of the success by imitating popular games. The second group is content with no depth that allows players to earn Platinum trophies the easy way. This cleanup move is thought to be part of the 'Shared Commitment for Safer Gaming' agreement between Xbox, Nintendo, and Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Jesus Simulator , published last month by VRCForge Studios , was a narrative-based production focused on the life of Jesus. However, the game's reviews on Steam are not very heartening. Players particularly criticized the game for its use of generative AI, empty world, and weak dialogue. On the other hand, some users praised the game's educational aspects and details.

Looking at other developments in the industry; a horror game that clearly used Nathan Drake's face for its main character backed down following reactions. Additionally, the lawsuit between Sony and Tencent has concluded; Light of Motiram , described as a Horizon clone, was removed from all major platforms.

So, what do you think about Sony's cleanup operation? Do you think it's a right decision to purge the PlayStation Store of such games? Don't forget to share your views in the comments!
