Steam to Provide FPS Data for Games
Steam will soon be able to tell you in advance how many FPS a game will run on your computer.
With a new claim made in recent days, we learned that Steam Deck 2 could be released in 2028. During this process, Valve continues to improve its store with new features, and one of them is providing FPS data for games to players.
Steam Will Show the Expected FPS Value for Your Computer
The Gamer noticed that Steam shared details of FPS data collection in a blog post published last month. This data collection process will be completely optional and stored anonymously, “disconnected” from the player’s Steam account. This data, which will be determined based on the type of hardware used by the player, will be used to “learn about game compatibility and improve Steam.” Now, new updates regarding this feature have come to light.
A new post by LambdaGen on X (formerly Twitter) discusses new data found by Roadrunner on SteamDB. The post mentions a code named “Framerate Estimator” and includes the following explanation: “Select an app and PC configuration to get an estimated FPS graph based on other Steam users’ FPS values.” This feature, currently in Beta, will help players predict their FPS values before experiencing FPS drops using data collected from other users with similar systems in the future.
Steam will soon tell you how much FPS you may get according to your PC specs by taking other Steam users with similar hardware.
