Undead Labs has announced that State of Decay 3 fans can register for the upcoming alpha tests of the game.

We last heard about State of Decay 3 in January 2026, when the head of Xbox Game Studios stated that the game was 'going really well.' Now, months later, the developers appear ready to finally open their doors to players, as alpha tests are on the way.

In a new video released on the official State of Decay YouTube account, series creator Brant Fitzgerald shared more details about the upcoming game. Fitzgerald mentioned that a large portion of the team has been working on State of Decay 2 for the past few years, but the rest of the team has been working hard to 'create great things for State of Decay 3.'

The developers are meticulously reviewing player feedback, including Discord, gameplay clips, and live streams, to learn what players liked and disliked about State of Decay 2. Now, they are inviting the community to participate in a series of State of Decay 3 alpha tests taking place next month.

Fitzgerald does not want to spoil the surprise for players, but he revealed that the alpha test will include 4-player co-op , some new base-building and resource strategies, and plenty of combat. Interested readers can register for the tests via this website.
