French gaming giant Ubisoft has decided to cease game development activities at its legendary studio, Red Storm Entertainment , known for the Tom Clancy games. This radical decision has resulted in the layoff of 105 employees.

Ubisoft has been undergoing a major restructuring process since the beginning of this year. This process had previously led to layoffs, the cancellation of several games, and studio closures. As part of the ongoing cost-cutting measures, an internal email revealed that the game development wing of Red Storm Entertainment would be shut down.

Major Downsizing at Tom Clancy Studio: 105 People Laid Off

In the internal announcement, Ubisoft confirmed that game development at Red Storm Entertainment has ended and 105 employees have been laid off. However, the studio is not closing its doors entirely; the team will continue to contribute to global IT support and Snowdrop engine developments.

Red Storm Entertainment was founded in 1996 in North Carolina by the famous author Tom Clancy. The studio made a huge splash in the gaming world with Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six , released in 1998. Acquired by Ubisoft two years later, the team brought the Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon series to life, which achieved much greater success in 2001.

Since then, Red Storm has contributed to major productions such as Rocksmith , Far Cry , Tom Clancy’s The Division , and The Division 2. They even worked on the Apple TV+ series Mythic Quest. Before the game development process was halted, the team was planned to build Ubisoft's AAA VR future with the Assassin’s Creed brand.
