1080p High Quality Mode for PlayStation Portal

March 2026 brings a brand new update for PlayStation Portal owners. The most notable aspect of this update is the new 1080p High Quality mode, which will make your gaming experience fluid and take visuals to the next level.

Sony 's handheld console, PlayStation Portal, has achieved great success since its release. This device, which offers the opportunity to carry PS5 games everywhere, continues to evolve with Sony 's regular support. The March 2026 update adds a massive new feature and makes critical touches that improve the user experience.

1080p High Quality Mode and Other Innovations

In the PlayStation Blog post dated March 17, 2026, the increasing popularity of PlayStation Portal and how players interact with the device were discussed: “Cloud Streaming monthly active users increased by 162% year-over-year in January, and over 50% of Portal users are now PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers.”

However, the most exciting news is the 1080p High Quality mode. After installing the update, you will be able to select this new mode that “prioritizes higher video quality but consumes more data” during Remote Play and Cloud Streaming.

This mode will offer a noticeable improvement compared to the standard 1080p mode. Sony also announced other innovations that improve the overall streaming experience: Product pages, game invites, trophy information, and search functions have been optimized for easier navigation and accessibility.

Finally, the update offers a “smoother onboarding experience” for new players, making it much faster to set up the device and dive into games.
