Saudi Arabia-based investment fund Electronic Gaming Development Company (EGDC) continues to increase its influence in the gaming world by purchasing a 5% stake in the Japanese gaming giant Capcom.

The interest of Saudi investment firms in the gaming industry has been increasing at an incredible rate in recent years. As you may recall, it was on the agenda that the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) could become the majority owner of EA as part of a new agreement. Now, Capcom , the creator of legendary series such as Resident Evil and Street Fighter , has received a massive investment from another Saudi-based entity.

Saudi EGDC Is Now a 5% Partner of Capcom

According to reports, EGDC has acquired 26,788,500 shares, holding a 5.03% stake in Capcom. The company's primary purpose in this acquisition is to generate profit from increases in stock prices or dividends. EGDC, which is owned by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman through the MiSK Foundation, also owns 100% of SNK Corporation , the producer of the Fatal Fury and King of Fighters series.

This move by EGDC is not the first Saudi investment in Capcom. The Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) also holds a similar stake. In 2022, the PIF purchased a 5% stake in Capcom and Nexon Co. for $1.2 billion. Additionally, last month, it was discussed that the Saudi Savvy Group could acquire Moonton, which houses the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang brand, from ByteDance for $7 billion.

Things Are Going Well at Capcom

In addition to the investment news, Capcom continues to break records with its game sales. One of the company's greatest achievements in recent times, Resident Evil 4 Remake selling over 9 million units , has solidified its title as the fastest-selling game in the series' history. On the other hand, leaks are not limited to existing games. Claims that Resident Evil 0 and Code Veronica Remake projects are on the way have excited fans, while when Resident Evil 9 will be released remains a matter of great curiosity.

So, what do you think about Saudi Arabia's massive investments in the gaming world? How do you think this will affect the future of Capcom games? Let's meet in the comments!
