ARC Raiders PvP Mode Was Almost Canceled

The debate between PvE and PvP in the ARC Raiders community is never-ending. Released at the end of October 2025, the game has set these two camps against each other ever since. For some, the game's PvPvE atmosphere is perfect, while others still dream of a pure PvE experience.

As you know, ARC Raiders achieved great success by remaining at the top during the 2025 Christmas season. However, a statement made during GDC (Game Developers Conference) revealed that this PvE dream was once very close to becoming a reality. Interestingly, even after deciding to add PvP mechanics, the development team considered reversing this decision.

What Happened to the ARC Raiders PvE Platform?

For those who don't know; ARC Raiders was originally designed as a PvE-focused game. Players would go outside the Speranza settlement, fight dangerous ARC enemies, and join forces with other players for massive boss battles.

However, a change of direction was made during the development process, and the game became an extraction shooter with a PvPvE loop. Although the game breaking its concurrent player records shows that this decision bore fruit, the team struggled quite a bit internally.

Embark Studios' production director, Caio Braga, admitted in a panel at GDC that even after this radical change, they doubted whether they had made the right decision. According to Braga, the initial PvP tests received 'seriously negative feedback' from players.

Braga summarizes the situation with these words:

'They didn't like PvP at all. Most of the conversations we had among ourselves were about whether we should undo this reset. Did we really have to add PvP to this game?'

It was later understood that the problem was not the existence of PvP, but its balancing. The Embark Studios team realized that they needed to overhaul weapons and attack tools, ensure that solo players did not constantly encounter large squads, and strengthen the sense of 'fairness' in combat.

As a result, the PvP decision remained, and although many players still want pure PvE, the PvPvE structure has become the heart of ARC Raiders. Every player heading from Speranza to 'Topside' now has to be on alert not just for ARC machines, but for other settlers as well.

Which side are you on? Do you like fighting other players in ARC Raiders, or are you one of those who say, 'I just want to kill creatures, take my loot, and leave'?
