Highguard Servers Are Shutting Down: Today Is Your Last Chance

The end of the road is coming for Highguard tomorrow, and today is your last opportunity to try out this production.

As a reminder for those who may not know, the free-to-play Highguard unfortunately failed to achieve the expected success and resulted in a major disappointment. The developers announced earlier this month that Highguard servers will be shutting down. This decision, coming less than two months after launch, was the result of layoffs, low player counts, and technical issues.

Last Day for Highguard is March 11, 2026

There are many reasons behind Highguard's inability to connect with players, but one of the biggest might be The Game Awards announcement. The developers had actually planned to present the game as a 'shadowdrop,' but plans changed when they received the closing slot for The Game Awards 2025. Additionally, the game receiving 'mostly negative' reviews on Steam due to performance and server issues made things difficult.

The game actually had a good start by approaching 100,000 concurrent players , but these numbers melted away quickly. Just last week, the player count dropped to double digits. Although the developers shared a roadmap including a massive 12-month content plan and a 5v5 raid mode, these moves were not enough to save the ship.

At the end of the process, a large part of the Wildlight Entertainment team was laid off. Tencent , which supported the project, also stopped providing funding following the poor performance. According to a former technical artist, negative discourse on the internet also accelerated the game's collapse.

If you want to take one last look at this short-lived adventure, Highguard is still playable for free today on PS5 , Xbox Series X/S , and PC.
