Nioh 3 Becomes the Most Played Game in the Series on Steam Immediately Upon Release
It seems the decision by Koei Tecmo to release Nioh on PC simultaneously with PlayStation is paying off. The highly anticipated Nioh 3 was released on both platforms; a first for a series that usually remains console-exclusive for months after its initial launch.
On Steam, despite only being available for a few hours, the game broke series records and continues to climb.
Nioh 3 becomes the most popular game in the series on PC just hours after launch.
As of this writing, Nioh 3’s concurrent player count on Steam (according to SteamDB data) reached 69,638 , and this number continues to rise. Considering it is midday in Europe and many people are at work, it is highly likely that this figure will be much higher. As we have seen with many recent releases, there could also be a surge over the weekend.
The current concurrent player count is enough to put the game among Steam's top 20 most played games.
The player count Nioh 3 has achieved puts it ahead of all other Nioh games on Steam. The original Nioh peaked at 10,649 players when it was released in November 2017. Nioh 2 performed much better, peaking at 41,325 concurrent players in February 2021.
Of course, the future of this success was predictable. The game is currently ranked number one worldwide on Steam's best-selling list. This means Nioh 3 has spent a total of three weeks on this list, climbing 46 places in one go.
There are many reasons why Nioh 3 is so successful. The positive reviews that spread after last year's PS5-exclusive demo and the subsequent even more positive news are just two of them.
