  "textContent": "Anglers across Colorado can cast a line without purchasing a fishing license this weekend as Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) celebrates its annual Free Fishing Weekend on June 6-7.\n\nFor two days only, both residents and visitors can fish Colorado's rivers, streams, lakes, and reservoirs without a fishing license or Habitat Stamp. The annual event is designed to introduce more people to one of Colorado's most popular outdoor activities while encouraging families and newcomers to experience the state's renowned fishing opportunities.\n\nColorado offers more than 6,000 miles of streams and over 1,300 lakes and reservoirs, providing access to more than 35 species of warm-water and cold-water fish. The state is home to numerous Gold Medal and Quality Waters, which are recognized for outstanding fishing opportunities and healthy fish populations.\n\nWhile fishing licenses are waived during the weekend, all other state fishing regulations remain in effect. Anglers must follow catch limits, seasonal restrictions, and any posted closures or special regulations.\n\n\"Fishing is a great activity to share with family and friends, and the perfect chance to get outside and enjoy Colorado's natural resources,\" said Angler Education Coordinator Andre Egli in a statement released by CPW.\n\nEgli noted that beginners interested in learning the sport can take advantage of fishing classes offered around the state.\n\n\"If you are new to fishing, a variety of beginner classes are offered around the state,\" he said. \"Classes are available for new anglers, families or seasoned anglers that want to learn a new technique like fly fishing.\"\n\n## Finding Places to Fish\n\nCPW offers several online resources to help anglers find fishing destinations, view fish stocking reports, and learn about local conditions.\n\nThe agency's fishing atlas can be accessed through Colorado Parks and Wildlife Fishing Resources.\n\nWestern Colorado anglers have no shortage of options, with popular fisheries located throughout the Colorado River basin, including reservoirs, mountain lakes, and Gold Medal trout waters in Garfield, Mesa, Montrose, Delta, and Gunnison counties.\n\n## Free Outdoor Festival in Colorado Springs\n\nFamilies looking for an introduction to fishing can also attend the annual Get Outdoors Day celebration on Saturday, June 6, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Prospect Lake in Memorial Park.\n\nAs part of the event, Colorado Parks and Wildlife will provide free fishing poles, bait, and instruction to the first 650 children ages 15 and under who attend.\n\nThe free family recreation festival features a variety of outdoor activities designed to introduce participants to Colorado's outdoor recreation opportunities.\n\n## Learn More\n\nColorado Parks and Wildlife also hosts fishing classes, tournaments, and educational events throughout the year at state parks and wildlife areas across Colorado.
