Who owns the Gazette?
We often get asked who owns us, the answer is pretty simple – our readers do. The Leicester Gazette is a multi-stakeholder co-operative, owned by its members. Our membership is made up entirely of workers and readers, who have a say in how the co-op is run.
This means there are no corporate interests or shady figures behind the scenes pulling the strings. More importantly, it means we can report unapolagetically on whatever we like, without being censored.
All of our work is made possible by our members, who meet at our AGM to discuss where we're at and plan for the future. If you like the sound of that, why not come along to our 2026 AGM? It's totally free.
Leicester Gazette's 2026 AGM and birthday party
Join members for our AGM and birthday party with buffet-style food, live music, speakers, and a free-flowing discussion about our journalism. The evening is a chance to meet the team and other Gazette members, and maybe even have some fun!

The Leicester Gazette is a member-owned co-operative, and we're also a nonprofit. That means: no clickbait, no sensationalism, and no nonsense. We need to pay for our journalism somehow though, and that's why we need members.
Members help keep reporters on the ground and ensure that our stories remain free for everyone, not just those who can afford it. You can join from £2 per month, or £21.60 annually (10 per cent discount).
