"textContent": "Dear readers,\n\nOn 4 January, De Montfort Univeristy (DMU) student, Khaleed Oladipo died in hospital after sustaining stab wounds. A tribute from Oladipo's family described him as “a good boy who loved his family”. As DMU alumni, this is a matter that is close to our hearts, and our sympathies are with Oladipo's family and friends.\n\nFollowing this tragedy, we've launched a fundraiser to provide life-saving bleed kits across the city. Currently, there is **only one emergency bleed control kit** in Leicester city centre – let's change that.\n\nWe're raising £2,750 to fund at least **10 public access emergency bleed control kits** across the city centre and university campuses. Within 12 hours of the major incident being declared, we had launched the initiative, which later was picked up by ITV news at six.\n\nNow, we need your help. If you can, please show your support by making a donation, or by sharing on social media and with friends and family. Together, we can create within our community.\n\n_Reading this on the website and not yet subscribed to the newsletter?__Click here to sign up_ _._\n\n Leicester Gazette launches fundraiser for bleed control kitsMake life-saving bleed control kits available in LeicesterLeicester GazetteLEICESTER GAZETTE\n\nHelp provide life saving bleed kits today\n\n* * *\n\n## This week's weather\n\nMonday 🌧️ Light rain and clouds. 10C\n\nTuesday 🌧️ Light rain and clouds. 10C\n\nWednesday 🌧️ Light rain and clouds. 11C\n\nThursday 🌧️ Light rain and clouds. 9C\n\nFriday ☁️ Drizzle and overcast. 5C\n\nWeekend 🌥️ Sunny intervals. 7C\n\n _We get our weekly weather forecast from the_ _Met Office_ _._\n\n* * *\n\n## Your weekly briefing\n\n### Meet the notorious 14th century Folville family\n\nThe Folville brothers caused havoc and mayhem in Leicestershire for over a decade.\n\n### City council shuts down review into unfinished homelessness compensation case\n\nLeicester City Council has voted not to escalate concerns over its refusal to fully compensate a homeless man.\n\n### Fiery debate sees Reform police commissioner’s budget rejected\n\nA fiery debate saw the Leicestershire police and crime commissioner’s budget unanimously rejected by a cross-party panel of councillors.\n\n### Complaints panel rules PCC's Putin-style photoshoot request was ‘inappropriate’\n\nRupert Matthews has held the role since 2021.\n\n### City council bypasses its own rulebook in a third of contracts\n\nNearly £4m worth of the contracts awarded by the council in the first half of this year were done so with a waiver.\n\n### Politicians join fight to protect vulnerable Send children\n\n‘Serious concerns’ have been raised over proposed closures to Send nurseries.\n\n* * *\n\n## Photo of the week\n\nA journalist prepares to cover the death of Khaleed Oladipo.
